Interior lighting (green to blue)?
Does anyone know if this can be done? Everything in my truck is green and I would absolutely love if it were blue. I'm talking about the dash lighting, power windows, etc.

I don't know about everything else, but I do know that in the new Chevys there is a choice of what color you want your dome light to be. I'm sure that you could get a new bulb and put it in there. It would be hard to change colors of anything else though.

ive been trying to do the same for mine....apc makes some of the bulbs you want...you can change the gauges to indiglo blue but it is very difficult find the bulbs...the painted glass fades out...whats needed is the colored glass..if you find any bulbs let me know
Hi ya Keoni ! I had the same idea. I guess the bulbs could be changed or coloured (I used fake stain glass paint from craft store...worked). However, the lights in the door locks and power windows switches have two tiny green T1 ( 0.5mm ) led's in them. Blue led's are not available yet in that size. If someone knows otherwise, let me know ! I have some spare switches and just took one apart to see. I wonder if with a Dremel tool...( gonna try,...oh oh, wife is giving me a look !)

I've been wanting to do the same thing. I don't know if you guys have ever seen the instrument cluster and panel for the new VW Jetta's, but thats the color of blue that is so sweet. I wish that I could get that color for all the interior lighting in my truck. I have seen the APC white gauges and blue trim, but I also want the switches and control panel the same blue. Just like Keoni.

I hope that your l.e.d.s. and your dremel work and that you have good news for the rest of us.
Later.

Thanks for all the replys guys. Great ideas. I've never attempted to open up any of the interior panels so I really had no idea what I would need.
2wise4aGM, these L.E.D's are they anything like the ones found in your cell phone? If they are, then I know they sell a board for your nokia phones which change the l.e.d's that light up the keys and screen to blue and other colors like orange, white and purple. Maybe you could us the parts and make it work. I know you can find them on eBay for about $20 I think. OR I MAY NOT KNOW WHAT THE HELL I'M TALKING ABOUT. Anyway it's an idea.

Thanks guys !
I'm going to look around the local electronic supply stores today and see what I can find. Those blue led's on the Nokia phones are surface mount type but should be workable. I put the regular size (T 1 3/4) blue led's in my drink holders. Trouble is they have a lens on them and are way too bright. Keep ya posted.

Keoni,
YES. I found out that they are little led and they are the same as your nokia phone...well not exactly, but the same type of light. They need to be sodered back in. I took apart everything even the window and door lock switches. They sell them at a place where I live for like 10 for 20 bucks. The air contol panel is just a green filament that can be taken out and replaced. I know that the older explorers and rangers have this blue filament in their air control panel that will fit in an f150's panel. And you can get the gauges from APC with the blue writing. Its alot of work, so I just want to know if its all worth it and if all the blues will match. The radio is another story. And the ***** on the air control panel that light up and look green are dipped in green paint and then dipped in white paint. I hope this helps and I hope that someone is daring enough to mess around with the micro led

Silver 39 and 2wise4aGM, great work. I appreciate it. Hey what kind of tools would I need to open up my door panels? I've never tried to do it. Is it easy to break?
Anyway I might end up getting the APC white face gauges but I would rather have the stock ones with blue numbers. As for the deck, I plan on upgrading my whole system later and I like the eclipse units. I believe the eclipse head units have blue lighting. I'm going to check out my uncles older explorer for the air control lights.

Keoni,
You really don't have that much ahead of you. To get to the window and door switch's all you have to do is pull off the plastic piece that is holding them in on the arm rest. Once you do that they are connected by a wire plug that can be removed. And inside the switch is the micro led. To get to that you must remove the top of the switch. The led is sodered on a small green micro board that sends it power to light up. All of this only requires patients and a Flat head screw driver couldn't hurt either.
If you want to take the whole panel off you have the pull and pop off the upper side molding and under it is a screw that holds in the larger piece of the door panel. Remove the plastic surrounding on the door handle lever and there is another screw behind it too. Then slowly pull up on the door panel by the handle and it should come off without a problem.
For the Air control panel you need to pop off the plastic piece around the radio, vents and air controls. You'll need like a 7 or 8mm socket to remove the air control panel, four bolts hold it in. From there you need your flat head screw driver to remove it from its wiring harness. Inside you'll see a clear plastic piece that helps guide the *****. That needs to be removed and the green filament in under the clear plastic. You can place any color in place of the green filament. I think BLUE would look SAWEET.
Good luck and I hope this helps. Hope that the micro led works when they are replaced.... Let me know. Lates.

True Blue
Well I got my 'lil blue led's today ! I ordered them from my local electronic supplier Electrosonic. A
whole $2 each CDN...so about $1.30 US each. The led's are made by Lite-on and the description is...Lite-on Lamp,Blue,3mm,W/Diff. My invoice shows cat. no. as LTL42B5 but Lite-on website doesn't list them but has some similar ones. They look great ! You'll need two led's and one resistor per switch. I used a resistor with a value of 560 ohms. It seems to be about the same brightness of the stock ones. It only takes a few minutes to do the change. Make sure the cathodes (short leads) of the led's are soldered to side without the resistor (you'll see what I mean when you open the switch). If I can do this...

Thanx 2wise,
So was the mod worth it. And what have you done for your gauges. I asked NR auto if they are coming out with any white/blue faces, but all he told me was to try to replace the clear stock bulbs with blue ones.
I've seen the APC ones....but I wasn't that impressed. And I noticed that the Cruise control switch is green too. Oh well...
Just wondering if you can post any pics of the finished products. Late.
