Hey G.I. Joe,
I installed one, but after reading you post about being stopped in Ann Arbor, I wired it to my foglights so I could turn it on and off. I work in Ann Arbor. I'm friends with an Ann Arbor police sargent, he brought by the state regs. on the lights after I mentioned your story, yep, illegal as hell. He just laughed and shook his head.

Hey, could you do me a favor? I've been trying to find the state regs on auxilliary lighting... I recently mounted my KCs and I want more info about when I can use them, whether or not they're considered "auxiliary lights" or "off-road" lights, whether they must be covered on-road, etc... Do you think you could get some info from that sargent friend of yours on this issue? I just don't want to get hassled by an officer having a bad day...
Here's where they mount in case it matters...
Please e-mail me if you can get the info.
GIJoeCam@prodigy.net
Thanks.

Yep, will try. I'm off the next couple of days so hopefully he'll stop by on Sat. I may even have the info already, he faxed me the info regarding the lighting. I'll check.

I can tell you for sure that our KC's are not street legal. They are supposed to be for offroad use only, but I don't know if they would actually ticket us for them. Mine are pretty bright, but yeah, they are highly illegal to use on the road.

Why exactly are they illegal in TX? Wattage? Location? Aiming? Position? Mounting type? Why, exactly? If it's for any of the above, why are my daylighters illegal, but not my high-beams? (Which is how I use the KCs anyhow)
Until somebody can show me something that says WHY they aren't legal, they're gonna stay just the way they are. Also, I need MI state law here, which differs from TX laws, obviously...
MANX... can you scan and e-mail me that info he faxed you? I'd just like to have something more solid in hand... If not, can I e-mail you my address and have you drop a copy in the mail for me? Let me know.
Thanx.

I think that the wattage is too bright. They have like 385,000 candlepower, which can blind someone really fast. I don't know, but on the box, it says for offroad use only. I know that's what it says on the box, I think I still have it though, I'll look.

My rear was on a week before the front, the rear went, water in it. The front still looks fine. F150 replaced it as soon as i sent it back, no problem. If it happens again i doubt i'll get any more or recommend them to anybody, the logo's not F150 online
LOL, wrong posting, hehe. You should be aware of this anyway. My advice if you're doing the front is get the 10 pack of those plastic fastners that hold the blk plastic that covers the radiator ect... They break easy, a pack was $3.00.
