Thumbs down

Man, don't do that. Just be proud of what you drive. For the amount of money you will spend on trying to make your 97 XLT look like a L, you could just go buy a used one. The motor alone is $4000 plus the S/C and tranny. The ground effects, exhaust, interior, badges, wheels/tires, front end, etc....too much.
Besides, EVERY SINGLE L owner here would bash you immediately. Regardless of how it looks.
I would advise not doing this. But that's just my opinion. Do what you want man. Good luck, with whatever you decide.

I don't think Lightning owners would bash anybody for making their truck look better. It's changing the badging that really pisses 'em off, though.

The front clip and ground effects look great on a non-Lightning, IMHO.

Good Luck!

I agree with TampaSVT, it's cool that you want to make your truck look better, but don't imitate the lightning with all the badging.
lariat4wd, maybe he just wants a supercab, and since Ford doesnt offer a lightning in a supercab version, he has to make his own.
I would probably look into buying the Roush kit, though. That way, no one can say you are trying to imitate their vehicle.

Yeah I love the front bumper and lightning looks, but don't put a badge on it.

Seriously, you would be better off trading in your and getting an L for the money you'll spend.

Actually, all the engine stuff will be completed by the end of this year. I had considered selling my truck and buying a Lightning, but couldn't see living without the supercab. I also think it will be fun modifying it and would be cheaper in the long run as I almost have mine paid for and won't be picking up another note. As for the Lightning badging, I do plan on putting the Lightning badge on the sides, but it will say "Lightning II" since it is an extra-cab. Not posing, just customizing. Thanks for the input, though.

About a month after I bought my truck last summer I saw the SVT/F-150 tailgate badge and ordered one. I also bought a Police Interceptor badge for the tailgate and thought it would be cool. I didn't know about this site and am not even sure I knew what a lightning was. Anyway after my "education" on this site, I soon found out that posing don't go around here.
I may end up taking it off someday but havn't yet. BTW I also have a 4WD front valence/tow hooks and a honeycomb grill that wasn't original so I guess I'm posing there too. I was even thinking about poser vanity plates...lol

I would just hate to see him spend all that money, then only have everyone criticize him. I for one believe that if you want to do something, by all means, do it. I had a 1980 Firebird for my first car. I converted it over to a full fledged Trans Am. Motor, tranny, rear end, body panels, interior, suspension, everything. Of course, this is a totally different expense scale, but same idea.

I too have the SVT F-150 badge on my tailgate, but I would never put a Lightning badge on it. SVT is just a division of Ford. The Lightning is an actual product of that division. (A GREAT ONE I MIGHT ADD!!)
It's still an F-150.

Do what you want. Make yourself proud to drive your truck...although, I would be proud to drive it like it is.

Cool

Wings West has a nice looking bumper cover/ ground effects kit. i think it is kinda pricey, but if you are going for looks i think it would be worth it.

You might have guessed I have a 1992 flareside, and I have a 92-96 lightning airdam in the front since I couldn't find a better looking one elsewhere. When I go to shows, the guys look twice since the lightning was never offered with the flareside bed. Instead of the "FLARESIDE" badge, I have the "5.0" badge on the side so I'm not posing, but I get a lot of compliments, and a lot of respect since I built the 302 to a repectable level. The lightning owners will compliment you on your truck, and then say something about thier supercharged 351 because they're proud. No one will ever bash you for doing cool stuff to your truck. However, if you want a lightning, get a lightning. The time and money would be better spent on making your new lightning faster. You can even spread your $4000.00 "upgrade" over 4 or 5 years in payments.
