Question Neon Lights....HELP ME WIRE!!!

Hello again its me.

I have a question. I would like to wire a series (meaning two or more) neon lights in various places in my engine and interior.

Firstly, what gauge or type of wire should I use?

Secondly, I need to find a 24 hour power souce I can hook them up to then run switches off of that, where should I look or could I find this? (I have a 2001 4.6 supercab).

Thirdly, how hard is it to do this, and incorporate the ground wiring, get it all worked out. Anyone have any pictures of where to wire them? Or how.....please give me some guidence im bored and its saturday after noon, thanks

It's really easy. Get a 12V test light that you alligator clip to ground, and then when you touch 12V, it lights up. Use it in your fusebox to find a 12V source. there are many ways to connect, but the easiest is to get clips that attach to a fuse (pick any fuse and test it to be sure it's 12V when the key isn't on) and give you a male butt connector off of it. You might get lucky and find an extra connection, that can be used by pushing a butt connector into it. Put the connector on the "always on" side of the fuse, determined by removing the fuse and testing both sides. Once you have a continuous 12V connection, put a fuse in the wire within inches of the fusebox to protect your circuit. Then, run it to one side of your switch. Run your switched positive lead from the other side of the switch directly to the positive leads of each light. Neon lights don't draw much current, and you'd be safe with pretty much any wire, but not much smaller than 18 gauge. You can buy spools of wire at radio shack pretty cheap, so I'd look for 14-16 gauge. 12 gauge is way overkill. Ground each light close to where it will be mounted, so if you ever need to replace it, it's easy. Because you'll have to run the wire all over your car, I'd be careful with it because you don't want to have to look for a short. Protect the wire with wire loom, and use tie wraps to keep the wire up where it can't get caught. I used connections on the positive wire near each light, which came in handy when I had to replace one. Good luck.

Hey Kial,
I think I remember you posting a thread about flamed stuff? The grill on that pic you posted was probably made by DJ Motorsports. On page 7,April issue of Street Trucks mag. there is an ad. for this grille, called GRRills. If you don't have the mag, there # is 949-635-0164. They don't give a web address,TTYS,,,98
