Thumbs up HID Headlamp installation.

I'm currently running a set of Focuz/Phillips HID headlamps in my truck now. I'll you guys know if I end up frying any of the wires/connectors after a bit for those who were interested in possibly going this route.

I first converted the 9007 lamp system to a 9005/9006 dual-bulb setup by purchasing EuroClear headlights from CrystalEyez. After that I picked up the Focuz/Phillips 9006 HID light & ballast setup. There was just enough room just inside the headlight compartment to mount the ballasts.

I had to put in 15amp fuses instead of 10amp for the low-beam circuit, but in tracing all the wires I could they all stated they were rated for 16amps, so I should be good.

They look AWESOME at night.

Thumbs up

I won my Focuz HID lamps on an Ebay Dutch Auction for $480! There is a guy there that has a recurring auction of them in quantities of 5 every 2 weeks.

FORDSALES -- I'll try to get some pictures with my brothers camera tonight or tomorrow.

Rhyno -- The light is definately bluer then standard lamps. It comes on very blue but turns to a nice true-white in a few seconds. It looks blue for approaching vehicles (because the "fringe angles" are blue), but it is definately a very intense white light.

Lariat4WD -- The Sylvania HID kit (along with a standard Focuz 9007 kit) will replace the stock lamps, but you will lose your high-beams because HID's cannot be dual-filament (there are no filaments, just an arc).

Is it worth the money? For the weak of wallet, I'd say no. They are definately brighter and definately white. I love the way they look. If I had a Benz, I'd be one to tack that "$1200" HID option on there. I did it because I love the appearance and I love the white light, but they are definate a luxury item. Is it safer? Well there is more light, yes, but for most, I doubt the cost would be worth the difference for that reason.

For me, since I split to a dual-beam setup there was some extra overhead in cost. The "euroclear" lights I bought included both the headlamps AND the clear corners.

Euroclear headlights & corners: $409
Focuz HID Lamp Kit (9006) : $480
2 15amp fuses : $2.00

The euroclear headlights from CrystalEyes project a directed beam without the "bleed" that would occur on the stock headlamps. (I don't blind oncoming drivers with my HID system).

You need the 15amp fuses bec of cold start up. It draws 13amps when you first fire them up, no biggie. Just not to worry any with that. There is a direct fit 9007 kit and just make sure you get the right bulb for the right headlamp. There is a D2R and a D2S.

Yeah, I saw the 9007 kits. I just did not want to lose my highbeams. Need them alot here in NJ.

I would imagine for the 9007 kits, you would need a D2S bulb (special coatings) so that you don't blind everyone on the road.

In the 9006 kit with the Euroclear, the D2R bulbs are fine as it is based off of reflected light (you can't see the bulb from head on).

Yes it is. Just sold the 20's, shopping for some new one's, got the stocks on for the winter anyway. There will also be a dual filament HID bulb out soon, and there is an adjustable ballast out so you can adjust from 25w-35w. You will be able to keep that more blueish color of the cold startup, there is also a switch that you can mount inside to just flip, like city, highway, country, etc.....I have the Ford factory 2001 headlamp and corner light on order. I have the retro kit in my headlamps for now.

Hrm...I'll have to see about that when either the dual-arc lamp comes out or the 25/35 ballast... 25 is a little now though isn't it? I'm running 35 for my lowbeams right now.

Do you have any links for the stuff you mentioned? I'd like to take a look.
