Billet Grill Install
I was just wondering if any of you all have any experience installing a billet grill insert yourself anw what steps are involved. Does the factory insert remove easily and how is the billet insert attached. Thanks for any info or thoughts
Mine is a Stull. Here are some basic tips:
[*]First, remove radiator cover. The plastic hex screws can be popped up with tip of exacto knife. Insert can be pulled up once these are out.[*]Next, remove torx screw holding each corner lense and pulled them forward. Let them hang by wiring.[*]Then extract screws holding grill housing. There are two also behind each corner lense.[*]Next use a screwdriver and with light pressure, back out plastic push pins from weather stripping from grill housing just above bumper. I believe there are 4 on each side.[*]There are two large center clips holding grill housing in place. Carefully, unsnap these and extract grill and housing.[*]Grill snaps into housing, so carefully use small screwdriver to unsnap grill from housing.[*]There are 4 small inserts on both top & bottom of housing. These will need to be cut flush with edge of housing. Best is Dremel tool. Go slow for a clean cut. Be sure not to cut the two large supports at bottom of grill. You need these to reassemble.[*]Take metal clips off these two large supports prior to installing billet grill over these supports.[*]My grill had two brackets that attched to grill with locking screws. These attched to truck radiator housing use bolts provided by Stull. The Dremel with flex attachment came in handy to pre-drill holes for these when reinstalling.[*]After grill is in housing, reattach clips on two lower supports. Set housing with grill back onto truck. Snap grill housing lower supports back. Mount billet support brackets to radiator housing so that billet is centered and flush with grill housing. Suggest two outer screws behind corner lenses be screwed in prior to this step.[*]Once billet is secure, reattach top screws and pop weatherstripping back into place.[*]Can mount 'FORD' logo into billet or leave naked.[*]Reset corner lenses and torx screws holding them in place.[*]Replace radiator cover and inserts and affix plastic hex screws (sic!).
Biggest tip: Hire someplace to do this. It's a wip of a job, but a great looking enhancement if done right. GOOD LUCK!
