Unhappy XLT Supercrew Grill

I have had my Supercrew since last May... absolutely LOVE IT. However, need to do something about its main flaw. It is like a woman with a great ***... and ugly face. She needs a better grill. I missed out on the "appearance package" with its body colored grill surround and eggcrate grill. This would have been much prefered to the cheap looking chrome surround and fat plastic center section that was standard. (and chrome mirror covers too!) I am not wild about the billet grills... especially with the chrome surround. TOO much brightwork up front. I could live with the chrome grill surround, if I could find a nice dark center replacement grill.

I recently saw the grill on the new Lightning. It is exactly what I am looking for. It is black... with aprox. 5 or 6 horizontal bars. Any Manufacturers making something similar? Any ideas on how expensive it would be to replace the grill surround with a painted one?

I have a 99 with the same chrome grill set up. You can get just the "Honeycomb" insert from on of the salvage yards on the net. Sometimes they have just the insert either black or argent gray. Most people want to sell you the whole grill but, I recently got the gray one from www.car-parts.com. cost me about $70 that included shipping. Fairly easy to install. You will need to remove the plastic clips from around the bumper corners and loosen a few bolts but other than that, not bad. The cost from Ford for the color-key outer shell grill with the honeycomb grill is about $275. Hope this helps.

I have been wanting to do the same things and as yourself am not fussy over the billet look but do like the Lightning grill you refered to. The other option would be a black Expedition Grill. A co-worker has a Black Expedition and I have been eyeing it when our trucks where side by side and I think it would look good.

Wink

If your interested in the honeycomb black insert, I replaced mine with a Stull billet grill. Give me an offer and we can work something out.

Or, just go up to your Ford dealer and get the parts you want, they arent that expensive.
