Side Mirror Cover Removal

Side Mirror Cover Removal
I have the chrome side mirror covers on my 2001 Supercrew. I am interested in removing them and either have them painted or purchase the color keyed ones to match my paint color, Toredor Red. Any suggestions on how to safely remove the covers is greatly appreciated.

The covers snap on. If you move the mirror glass to the extreme down position and look to the inside near the top you will see two tabs, release them (it should be obvious on how to release them), then move the mirror glass to the extreme left and right positions where you'll see a tab on each side, release them and it will easily come off. Simply press into position to re-attach. I have planned to do the same as you but was going to see how much they would cost to replace with black ones before bothering to paint them.

I checked with the local ford dealership who advised they can not special order the color keyed side mirror covers. He referred me to the local Ford auto body shop who will custom paint them for me for $25 each. Thank you for the removal instructions.
