Question How to modify an expy console

I just installed an expy console into my 98 F150 s/c. It looks great. Now, I want to install an equilizer into the console. What I want know is what do I need to use to cut the console. I thought about a dremel tool, but I am afraid that it will melt the console as it cuts it and it will endup jagged and uneven.

I found a perfect example of what I want to do at http://members.sounddomain.com/red97. Red97, if you read this, what did you use to cut your dash to accept the AC controls and how were you able to keep it so clean as to make it look like it came from the factory? Great work Red97.

I did use a dremel tool. But I also rebuilt the whole front side of the pocket. As you use the dremel it will pile up plastic behind where you are cutting that will be soft and then harden. When you are done cutting the plastic will all be hard then you can just break it off. I actually rebuilt the front wall and everything in the pocket though so it won't be as easy as just cutting. Ford does make a new top piece for the consoles that excepts A/C controls but I think it is only in the newer ones(>99') because they put an actual blower and everything in there and the console is slightly different, atleast that is what Ford says. The sight you listed doesn't work because of the period at the end of it. If you click on the one in my signature it will work.

Nice install red97

Was the expy console tough to install or was it relatively straight forward. Other than the A/C panel that is. I am looking at doing this in order to allow more room for improvement in the cab of my truck as well. Also Do you think that I would have a problem fitting it into a regular Cab(the wifes truck)?

Again Great Truck

I am intrested in putting one in my single cab also. There is a difference in the Exp. con. from 98 to 99 and i would like the larger concel from the earlier model Expy.

I think I will be able to fit a 10 inch sub under it firing down ward. that way I have the back are for other stuff.

I would think you would be able to fit the console into the reg. cab. The only thing I think you might have a problem with is the hump that goes along the back wall of the truck. In order to put the console in it requires you to mount two brackets on the floor and then you sit the console on the floor and two brackets that are attached to the console slide into the two brackets on the floor locking it into place. The console is 40 1/2" long from the black panel under the dash to the back of the center console. Add about 1-2" for the slide and you should be able to measure to see if it fits. Good luck.

Can you put one of those consoles in a 99 supercab? I think they look great, better than the one I already have. Gives it a better look. Thanks. Thomas

truckluver,

Yes, any SuperCab or SuperCrew is ideal for an Expy console. Check this site out for a "How-to" http://www.f150world.com/expyconsole.asp

Mine is in a '98 SuperCab. Check my signature for pictures.
