Lights behind grille
Looking for some info from you guys that have placed lights behind the grille. I need some extra power when driving back and forth from VA and NC. Would like some good driving lights to use. My question is what are you guys using and how well have you found them to work? I found some Hella brand 500, 520 and XL series lights locally, some PIAA also but they are a little pricey and last KC Daylighters but they were off road version. The KC series looked to have the best included wiring harness and supplies.Would like to keep in the rectangle shaped style behind the grille but would go round for the right pair. Need some advice as I want bright but want to keep the road legal issue in the formula.
Looks like options are Hella, PIAA, KC ?
Firezap...what make lights did you use??

I have two 7" PIAA's and two 6" KC's. They are off-road lights, so I can't ever use them in the city. If you're trying to keep the costs down, then go with the 55 watt Hella's or KC's. You might be able to try some 85 watt PIAA's, but you'll probably have to turn them off for oncoming traffic.
I do plan on taking them out someday and mounting them on the grille guard.

Mine are no-name. I got them about 14 years ago when I had a 4x4. They arn't putting out enough power for me so I'm off to PepBoys for a different pair. They are still square and have 55watt bulbs. I'm going to up grade 1 set to 100watt. Just because I need MORE POWER (as Tim the Toolman would say).

Thanks guys you have been a great help once again!! Looks like lights are going in and will be ordering a billet grille too. Seeing all the pics with the grilles in just made me want one even more.
TexasAg and Bomber,(Jupiterak thanks for the info on yours) Who made the round lights you put in? I Like the way the round style looks behind the grille the more I see them and may have to go away from the rectangle style I had in mind. This brings another question, who makes the best billet grille for the money and where to get one. I noticed the online store has them listed too.
Just another note Firezap yours looks great too and thanks for the info provided.

Abunch of the California chapter members are installing TreZ billet grills, and as soon as i get some money"and with me being a college student that wont be any time soon" i will switch mine out with a TrenZ.
as for the lights i have **** Cepeck off road lights in the main grill. this company has been bought out and they dont make them anymore so for this reason im going to replace mine with a set of KCs and maybe in the process add another set of lights in the main grills.
I would go with KC's, Mudder a good friend of mine has many of these and i have seen them work, they are great at night. very bright.
i use the lights in the lower grill for driving in additoin to the main headlights these are some off brand no name AutoZOne lights. they work well for what i wanted them for and they look cool at night.
if you need any directions on installing these email me and ill send you an email that i send to everyone that ask me how i did it, it is VERY easy just a little time consuming.

In Tennessee, only 4 white lights are allowed on the front of your vehicle. Some of the pics above show 8 and would cost you about $122.00 the first time. You can get around it by using a combo of yellow fog and white driving lights if you want more than 4. Personally, I find that the setup I and 99XLT have is more than sufficient light for these Tennessee hills and curves I drive in.

99XLT and Texasag....are you guys still out there?
The light set up you are using look great!
Q: Are you having to take out the grill in order to get these lights mounted in there and is it possible to get a wiring diagram or instruction's for one of you.
I have a 2001 Supercrew and should be the same wiring I am guessing.

2001,
I didn't have to take out the grill. I opened my hood and removed the plastic cover in the front and was able to install them from there. On the wiring I will have to get back to you on that. Mine came with a switch that I mounted in the cab but I also tied them into the parking lights so they would come on when I turn on my headlights.

Thanks 99...look forward to your wiring information.
If anyone else has some great wiring ideas and know how's for the behind the grill headlights...."PLEASE" pass them to me.
I would love to do this put a little concerned about the proper wiring and switch location inside of the cab.
Thanks guys!

do you think lights behind the stock grill would work very good? i think my stock grill looks fine and dont want to change it but more light is always better.
