Post Lowering your f150

does anyone know if works to remove a leafspring from the rear of your truck...does it cause any problems? does it lower the rear about 2 inches? I have a friend that can lower the front with clamps, but im not too sure about removing a leaf spring.

LoCox:

Why not just do a 2" shackle?($69.00). Only takes an hour to do and can be put back to stock if you wanted.... Just a thought.

my truck came from the factory lowered 2 inches in the front so i put 2 inch lowering shackles on it ,it still sat up to high so i took out 2 leaf springs on each side and it leveled it out.., but the back end bounced, then i got lowered shocks and shorter bump stops, and it rides fine now.

Cool

You really should lower it in a correct way if you are going to do it. The shackles are the pieces that go from the rear of the leaf to the frame. A longer one will lower it somewhat.

You also really shouldn't use spring comperssion clamps on the front coils to lower the front either. It will really ride like crap if you. Coils aren't that expensive either. With mine lowered 3" front and 5" rear, mine still has pretty much a factory ride. Just a tad stiffer because I put different shocks on for a lowered truck.

I would not remove any of the leafsprings. If you do that it decreases your load capacity and weakens your rear end. My truck has three leafs in the rear spring packs if you take one or two out you stand a chance of hitting a bump too hard and your spring bowing in the wrong direction. I have yet to see it on a ford but I have seen it on a shovie. I would just buy a set of lowering shackles it is the best way to lower your truck and keep the suspension safe. Although that is just my opionion.

I do have a pic, well kind of have a pic. I have taken a pic of the drop but I have yet to get it on to my computer. I am trying to do it asap. I also love the new drop I have on my truck it is not even a week old yet. I would recommend this drop to anyone who wants a more sporty look to their truck. One word of advise the shocks that belltech sells are a very firm riding shock, use a diffrent brand such as a rancho 3-way adjustable. that way you have a choice between firm, mild, to a soft ride.
