Do you have your front license plate?
I just finished placing my california license plate on my truck. I had this bad a** FORD license plate on my truck but just found out from a friend that the ticket here in LA for that is ~$305!! I'm starting to not like my truck again because I'm removing a lot of the stuff I added e.g., black-outs and now front license plate. Boo!
Should I not worry about it and put the FORD plate back on? Or play it safe and hate the front end of the truck! ;(

I have one that is white with "MOVE OVER" backwards, in big red letters. It was fun for a while. I removed it AND the ugly bracket that holds it. The bumper looks soooo much better!!!

Put the plate back on...the section is CVC 5200 and its just like giving the law a free excuse to stop you. About the only things you can do are: get a vanity (personalized plate) and; put a nice lic plate frame on. Anything else is illegal.
Bottom line is that both plates have to be on vehicles registered in California.

I hate to give them a "reason". My wife got pulled over several times in her Supra. She will not drill the fascia or cover up the air intake. I always wonder when I drive her car; prefer the legal truck.

Lost mine a couple a months ago. The factory bracket won't work with the bumper cover. I like it much better without. I guess I'll just go until I get a ticket. If I do get nailed, I think I can use one from a Lightning. Much easier to get away with it if there is no bracket at all. If there is an empty bracket, or a custom plate instead, ya stick out like a sore thumb. Wife's old car ran around town for 4 years without a front plate or bracket and never got a ticket..........

I'm not sure if I'm lucky or what, I lived in San Jose, CA for six years with no front plate, and I have been here in WI with no front plate for five years. Been stopped (for some pretty dumb things too) but never because of the front plate, never gotten a ticket for it either. I suppose I'll leave it off untill I get cought.

What you could do is have a broken license plate bracket in your truck with the license plate in it and if you get pulled over just say it broke off and you haven't had a chance to fix it yet.

F150Y2K, since you live in California I would recommend that you put your CA plates on the front of your vehicle. I have a friend in the CHP, he said beginning very soon the CHP is starting a program to force Californians to have both license plates. So if you have a front bracket with no plate, then you are just asking for a ticket. You could of course remove the front bracket altogether. Then if you get pulled over just tell him that your vehicle never had a front bracket. This could be true since a front license plate bracket is technically a factory option. But this also assumes you are one who can lie to a cop (I couldn't). We should be thankful our F150s are designed like this. Our smaller Ranger brothers are not so lucky. Their license plates are mounted to the bumper itself, so it's quite obvious when it has been removed. However, the only way to ensure you won't get a ticket is to put your plate on and leave it.
JMC, that's a sweet picture of your truck!

In MI we don't have any front plates.
You don't even get a front plate holder when you buy a new vehicle here.

Arizona only requires and issues 1 plate. My truck didn't even come with a front frame, and it looks so much cleaner.

A front plate sometimes doesn't get noticed. It sort of depends on what you are doing...

F150Y2K,
I live in Mission Viejo (So Cal) and I took my plate and bracket off as soon as I got it home (18 months ago) It looks MUCH cleaner.
As far as giving the cops a reason to pull you over....yea, if you're doing something stupid or driving erratically. I've been pulled over 5 times (hope the wife isn't reading my posts) and received 2 tickets (lucky I guess) and none of the Cops said anything about the front plate missing (a mixture of CHIPS, Orange county as well as L.A. county Sheriffs)
I'm not saying to break the law...you have to use your own head to decide if you might get a ticket (most likely just a fixit at worst case) or risk it.

I hate having that ugly front liscence plate. I think its a huge waste of taxpayer money to make them. About the only thing they are good for is catching bugs.

Hey Big Mike,
Your truck is looking sweet so far! Once you out those bags on it, boy! And I'm sure after that come the 20's right??? Now I know what my truck would look like if I decided to drop it because I have the exact same truck. Except that mine's a 5 speed.
Those damn fix-it tickets aren't just to fix, prove, and not pay! I got one for tinted tail-lights and it was $77. I'm going to have it written off though.
I'm going to take off the plate and hope nothing happens!!!
One more thing; can you emailme how you mounted the fog lights on the bottom bumper? I kinda wanna do the same thing but am not all that sure on how to mount them since there's nothing behind after you cut. Thanks,
Alex
