PIAA's KC's or Hella? help
I have been trying to decide what fog lights to get for my truck. I am looking for a round off roading light. There are so many to choose from and every shop gives me a different answer. I have looked at the Hella lights and wasnt impressed with the bulb wattages. I have noticed that a lot of members here use KC lights. I have never seen them lit up but the wattage on the daylighters is really high. Local shops tell me that the KC's arent that good. A lot of people (shops) have been reccomending that I get the PIAA pro 80 xt lights. Does anyone have experience with these?
Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Dustin

Well, they don't call me Mr.Daylighter for nothin. I have 8 165 watt KC Daylighters on mine, and I can see for miles and miles at night. And in my opinion, they are the best for long range lighting. If you want the best, get KC, and why they are turnin you away from those is really strange. Here are some pics of them LIT!

Lone wolf,
thanks, I haven't decided yet. MUDDR is avaliable, but I kinda like 2 BRITE. I will definitely have it before the big April rally.

I have five sets (thats right, five SETS) of PIAA's mounted on my Explorer, am not disappointed by a single one. I think I can shine brighter then mudder's 8 lights with just the 4 that are mounted on the roof. (Mudder, up for a competition)
. The PIAA's on the roof are 385,000 candle power each (they are the PIAA 80 Pro XT's). I also have a set of PIAA 520 fog lights (great for seeing the immediate area around you, not just miles down the road), PIAA 9004 Superwhites (much brighter than stock), and a set of PIAA 1500 fog lights mounted within the rear bumper, to provide great light for backing up. I am also hoping to add a set of PIAA H.I.D. headlights and a set of PIAA driving lights to use as "rocklights" for lighting the underside of the vehicle to see rocks while wheeling at night, NOT for looking cool around town as some might suspect

Bring it on, I know that PIAA's aren't brighter than KC's. So you wanna have a light contest let's go ahead. 8 to 4, ahh no.
I know how bright these are, mine are 385,000 each. Now, multiply by eight. Just the power of 4 is un real, 8 are in a league of there own.

sorry this took so long to get back with you. I'm up for a challenge, if you make it to Silver Lakes Sand Dunes May 20th, I'll put some money on the fact that my lights are brighter

I was wonderin when you would respond. Just ask every member on here who know's me, mine are the brightest around. No doubt about it.
Lets see here, 8 165 watt DAYLIGHTERS, 385,000 candle power each. KC claims the beam visible up to 5 miles, just from one. Now, having eight of the brightest off-road light on the market I know what is goin on. I take this real personal since now that I'm known as MR. DAYLIGHTER. What is the wattage of your lights? Cause my friend on here has two PIAAS on his and they are the brighest off-road light they make and I can out shine him. That's why I'm makin him a lightbar to stick on his grille guard to add some KC's.

I consider wattage to be irrelavent, as I consider candlepower irrelavent. Here's my reason for that. I used to have a set of PIAA 910's in my F-150, they were 85 watts each, superwhite, about 110,000 candlepower and they could outshine my buddies KC 385,000 candlepower lights (same ones you have I can only assume). Granted, they couldn't shine FARTHER, but that area that was lit up was lit up much better. What's the purpose of light something up 5 miles away? So you can see the road? That has no off-road worthiness whatsoever, its just to sound cool, maybe if you were off-road racing at night it could come in handy, but I doubt you are doing that. What matters in four-wheeling is the 1/4 mile-1 mile directly in front of you is lit up, and after that its irrelavent. I've never been off-roading where I have more then a mile of straight road directly in front of me, I would just be lighting up the side of some mountain... These are 120 watts each, 385,000 candlepower. They may not shine for 5 miles but they'll sure light up the area 1/4 mile-1 mile in front of you much better then the KC's will. I wouldn't be so sure of myself except I HAVE outshined the KC 160 watters, now the fact that you have 4 additional lights, that makes it a bit tougher, you'd probably win just because you have a lot of light closer to the ground simply because of hte lights on the grill guard. So how abouts I put up my four on my roof against the four on your roof?
My lights on my front brush guard are fog lights - only about 65,000 candlepower and they won't really outshine anything as thats not what they are designed to do. PIAA makes some rally lights which ARE designed to shine for miles, I can't speak on those since I have no personal experience with them - they are about 8 inches tall, about 3-4 inches deep. They are the lights many pro baja racers use for lighting, even those that aren't sponsored by PIAA, so Im sure they must be good.

Well okie dokie. Do you have any new pics of your Explorer, with all the lights?
By the way, I'd bet everything I have on my Daylighters. Since I plan on keepin this truck for awhile, I will keep addin. The plan is for two more, and the possibility of re-doin my roll bar with 6. It's good to have your own fabrication place. Also, I plan on emailing KC to see if they might wanna sponsor me, or if they would put my truck on their web site. Who knows, but I do have a personal plate on the way, 2 BRT 4 U. That may do it, if they see that on my truck, along with 8 to 12 KC's. Oh well, whatever the case maybe, I will never ever have a problem seein at night, anywhere in the world.

Hello, had to make a couple comments on this one. dustin d, be careful what you hear from someone that is saleing it to you. I'm sure you will be happy with what you choose. Also sorry that this has turned into a different thread.
As for the lights and who's is better. I for one like the KCs. I had a bud a while back that had them on his jeep. I have also seen Mudders in person. Heck we were about 1/4 mile away watching him light up us and the field inbetween us. I'm sure that the PIAA are great lights. I also have no idea on the price of either one. Dustin that may play into it a little. As for a "Light Off" that would be cool, Heck maybe a Rally for it. But let's keep it as a friendly event, no need for money exchange, unless you really feel like giving out money, because I'll take. I'm sure everyone will have their own personal taste on this. By the way where is this Silve Lake thing at anyway.

I have some images btu the PIAA logo might make you think I'm sponsored by PIAA, LOL. Seriously though, you can go to http://bart.is-s.com/~explorers/explorer/explorer.html
I am not making this wager based on the fact that I am sponsored by PIAA, but because I feel they are superior lights. Another recommended web site to visit - once you visit the other one, click on "Tuttle Creek, KS" you can see my Explorer immersed in mud! And if you visit the "Truckhaven California" run you can get pictures before they appear in the August edition of Four-Wheeler Magazine, I'll be in it!
