Question Pace-Edwards Roll top cover.

Does any body have a pace-edwards roll top cover? I saw one on a super duty at a local reasturant and liked the looks of it. Any opions about them?

My uncle has one on his truck and he loves it. He's diabled and only has 1 arm, and it's very easy & simple for him to use... it only takes 2 fingers of pressure to get it to slide the entire length of the bed. It also has locks at 1/3 and 2/3 down the box, so if you have a box that's maybe 2'x2', you can slide the top and lock it so that there is only about 2-3' that is exposed.

We also live up here in Canada and have had some pretty cold, rainy, snowy, icey weather in the last little bit, and he's had no problems with it due to the weather.

Ours was about 700 installed. Not cheap. It works very well, the lock froze the other day, but I opened the liftgate and turned
the lock mechanism by hand and it was fine, probably just water blown into the lock. Besides the lock, it has opened fine in cold weather. It rolls right up. WD40 cleared up the lock problem.

I took it through a carwash, and even with
the dryer blowing water right on the seal between cover and gate there was
only few ounces of water in the bed at the end. I haven't seen any water after rain.

We just came back from taking the truck to DC, and it worked great, we filled up the back and pulled the cover, and didn't worry
about walking away at rest stops. We also took a 2X10 and put it in the slots in the bed(liner), and then put some hooks into it and attached a cargo net. A nice space to
put groceries in, especially in winter (free refrigeration).

You could go the pace-edwards web site, http://www.pace-edwards.com/

Thanks for the info. Is the cover made from aluminum, or something covered in vinyl? Does it rattle or make noise during driving? Do you have to drill holes in the bed to install it and does it matter that I've got a bed liner? Thanks for your help

It doesn't rattle during driving, though looking through the rear view mirror there is a little rippling as the wind hits it. To be honest, I am completely ignorant about what they did when they put it on. They did cut holes in the back of the bedliner to run drip tubes through, the tubes go from the head of the cover into the bed, through the liner, and then through the pass throughs at the head of the bed. That way water on the cover when you roll it up sluices down and out instead of into the bed.

http://www.pace-edwards.com/faq.htm has more info.

If you plan on carrying really wide cargo (a mattress, etc) it probably isn't the best choice, since the rails for the cover are inside the bed rails, so you will lose some bed width. It is nice looking, and I don't have any complaints (though we only got it 2 weeks ago, X-mas present for my wife). The truck on the web site is an F150, if I get a chance I will borrow my sister's digital camera and take some shots (a few days probably).

Lightbulb

I shopped around for about 6 months for a hard roll up cover for my 93 F150. A company out of Grand Forks, ND called Applied Products started making a top a few years back that they call the Retrax. It runs about $750 installed but I feel the Pace Edwards top doesn't hold a candle to it. The neatest thing about the top is that the cover is made out of Lexan (the stuff bug shields are made of). It's tough as nails and has held up in 3 ND/MN winters so far..plus the lexan looks cool as hell. The top can lock anywhere on the rails (not in 3 places like the Pace Edwards) and it rolls on a few dozen sealed bearings that make it move easier than the Pace Edwards and make it feel less flimsy. Plus it has the same no drill design. The Lexan is guaranteed for 10 years by the manufacturer (I think 3M?). Plus, they're cutting it down to fit my 99 for $100. Not too shabby

Cool

Tried to find the company listed by BMW, no luck. If anyone has the info, please advise.
Also curious if anyone has trouble with the Pace-edwards?? I like the idea and went researching on the product. Two dealers near me stopped selling them since sthe ones sold tended to be returned or a maintenance nightmare. Biggest issue was dirt and debris getting in the top rail and moving into the housing. Everything became gummed up and then the complaints rolled in. I would to know if that expected or what? Thanks.

All I have from Applied Products is a toll
free number. I don't think they've done
any kind of web-site avertising...though I should do it for them and try to get a free top out of the deal. The number is
1-800-206-4070 I know they have a few distributors around, but I'm not sure where.

Thumbs up

I have a brand new one in the box for sale. I bought it for a '97 Chev Full size, but didn't get it installed before a kid hit me and the truck burned up.

This one fits full-size Chev or Ford, not stepside. Don't need it as my new F150 has fiberglass cap. I think the Pace-Edwards is a great unit and the flexibility of it (security plus don't have to remove for tall loads) makes it the best idea out there.

I paid $600 new for mine. Will entertain non-insulting offers.

No Problem SuperCrew. Just saw one of those for the first time sitting on a lot yesterday on my way home from work. I was a little skeptical of them before, but in person they're a pretty sharp number. Maybe I need to upgrade to bigger doors too.
