Post Clear Tails

What actually makes the tails legal or not? I have been playing the odds against getting a ticket, but it's probably just a matter of time. The only thing that I feel is bad it that under full sunlight, you cannot see the red bulbs. If anyone can answer me, I would appreciate it. More curious than anything.

Thanks

The lack of the required red "reflector" makes them illegal. If you find a clear one with the required area of red reflector on them they are the legal ones.

So it's not the red lens (light strength) it just the red reflectivity? Jeez, that's weird. Thanks man...

well, when you put on taillight covers they cover up the reflector areas. This would make them illegal right?

That's what I'm thinking!!! I have a set of V-Tech's, just have to paint them, figured that the cops would think the same. The red was just covered....

Well yea if you cover them up. Are you talking about those smoke or black out type? Yea, they are illegal. But if you are talking about those slotted type that you can still see the reflector then no they are OK. DOT regulation stuff. There is a good old post on this somewhere were we had one of our members that was a legal eagle look this all up and he gave it to us. Search for it. Seems like it had something to do with being able for other drivers to tell which direction the vehicle was going without the brakes having to be applied. Makes sense when you think about it.

Yea, definitely...it is helpful to know that it's the back of a vehicle, not the front!!!! Capt America put reflector's under his tailgate. They looked pretty good, might do the same. Also, they are the slotted type, but the red/clear APC lenses (not released yet) looked like the red was only along one side, the place where the edge of a cover would go....

I think the red reflector requirement can be met with the addition of reflectors.
