Post Looking for a good Bed Cap manufaturer

The wife says that since we are leaving Alaska this spring to Arizona that I should get a cap for my truck. I was wondering if anyone who could tell me some good manufacterers and your experiences with them. If you have any photos of your trucks could you let me know, so that I can have an idea of what they look like. Also, if anyone could give me some prices on what to expect for them.

Thumbs up

I have been very pleased with my Snug-Top. The Snug-Top (like the A.R.E.) have a hard "skirting" that covers the bed rails -- this feature is a must-have (looks odd without it).

I use my truck as my RV, so I went with a cap/shell that's higher than my cab-height. I think I paid around $1100, painted to match and including the head-liner (another good feature to insulate and reduce noise).

Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with either of these recommendations -- click below to see a pic of mine.

Good luck

Jim

FasFreddy and JHerron....
Your trucks look great with your toppers on. Up here in Alaska, the only toppers available are Leer or Raider. If you have any info on either one, please let me know. Both the A.R.E. and Snug-top were ones that I was looking at with no avail up here.
Thanks again

Cool

Covermaster 1000 just a little over 1100.00 with slider, wing, headliner, 3rd brake standard on vehicles that come factory with one. You have 3 choices:
Cab high (mine)
Raised, about 5 inches above cab the whole lenght of topper
High back, looks like a wedge.

I don't have a cap , yet, but I have been doing alot of research. Locally we have the Snug Top, A.R.E., Leer and many others. The Raider doesn't seem to compete with the others (IMO) based on the demos I've seen. The Snug-Top, A.R.E. and Leer are very close in terms of quality and $. Personnally I prefer the the Snug Top out of all of them. They all have extended paint warranties and I believe "lifetime" structure warranties. A buddy of mine has the A.R.E. and swears buy it. Between the Leer and A.R.E., I prefer the Leer, based on some of the options. My facts could be wrong so make sure you double check with your dealer before you make the big purchase.

I'll send you a Snug Top, if you send me some salmon.

Todd,
Seems I'm also in the market for the grill guard (Topic: What to do w/Tax Refund) and eventually want the cap too. So, before I sign a second mortgage to send a Snug Top to AK in return for some Fed-Ex'd salmon, I better admit I was kidding. It seems you Army fellas take everything us AF guys say as gospel. Surely you know by now that we can't be trusted when there are trucks and fish involved? (For those AF guys who took offense and those Army guys who believed what I just said, I'm kidding!) Having a topper installed before you roll out would be great for the drive and A.R.E. & LEER are both quality caps. I just think the LEER looks better but it might not be worth the price difference when it gets down to it. Also, the caps have different methods for securing itself in place. I believe the Leer is bolt-in and the A.R.E. uses clamps. This may make a difference if you plan on removing the cap frequently. Good luck.

Mike
