Question Strobe lights for the headlights

I was wondering how much strobe lights would be for my F-150. The ones that suburban cop cars have. And I just wanted to know if it is difficult to install them and where can I find some. Thanks

Hi Orbital,

It just so happens that I just put in strobe lights that you were asking about. You can find out all the information you need about the lights at sirennet.com and galls.com. First you will need a power supply and than a set of hide-a-way strobe lights. Do not buy the ones with the screws, the newer ones come with rubber grommets. You will have to drill a 1 inch hole in the light housing,to put the strobes in. It took me a 1/2 day to do this with all the wiring, but I put in 6 strobe lights. I put the strobes in the back-up, parking and a pair of auxliary strobes. The cost of the lights from Galls, color is $85.00 for a pair..and clear is $70.00 a pair. The power supply can run from $80.00 to $300.00 depending on how many watts you need and light patterns you want.

What is the purpose in installing strobe lights? Recreation?, Swat Team?, Hypnotize your mother-in-law? (just kidding) This sounds like a great addition to our trucks. Oh no what is my wife going to say about this MOD? Thanks orbital and I95!

franks&beans,

The purpose for me having the strobe lights is that I am a volunteer fireman. I would not recommend putting in unless you are working in some emergency service field, really no need otherwise. It could be against the law in some states to have the strobes installed in the headlights. Especially if they are blue or red in color.

they are cool to look at at night, in a parking lot, or at the dragstrip, but if you use them on the highway, you'll more than likely get a "coupon" in any state.

locations

What locations are best used for strobes, Tail and reverse is a given. The headlights a given too. But I am up in the air about putting them in the front turn signals which are close to the headlight, or put them in the lower driving lights. 2001 f-150 super crew lariat.

Just so happens I am a volunteer also and I also install hide aways as a side job. Just be known that once you drill into your lights you canoot claim a warranty defect if you gain moisture. enough of that. The strobes with the screws are actually better and give a tighter fit with the gasket where as the rubber stopper strobes tend to degrade after awhile due to the heat of the head and tail lamps this is my personal observation from experience. As for price Stobes n More is cheaper than Galls and is pretty reasonable. If you are not iin the emergency services paid or volunteer I would suggest not installing in your vehicle.

I was looking at installing the streetglow pro series strobe light system. The kit comes with 4 80w bulbs and a 6 head 10 pattern transmforer and cost 200 of ebay. I was wondering if this is a good kit or not. I'm in mud and water occasianly and I dont want water in my lights. Will I have this problem? Wheres the best place to mount them to have the brigtest flash?

First depends on your vehicle and year. I find that the headlights and tails are sufficient with 60 watt pack, i saty out of the fog lamps for line of sight reasons. If done correctly you shouldnt have a problem as I have done all sorts of off road vehicles and vehicles that get a lot of abuse in extreme enviroments. As long as the gasket if using screw type strobes is tight, or the rubber grommet type you shouldnt have any problems. I use name brand stobes and packs and have only had 1 problem outta a hundred or so installs. The person i installed a set of hide a ways in didnt listen to my warnings of keeping objects clear of the strobe pack and cross shorted the pack with a screw driver. The result was the melting of his tail and headlight. Aftermarket packs I never really deal deal with to much, have had control board problems with some after awhile.
