Factory nerf bars
I have the factory bars i got them for my pregnant wife who has trouble getting in and out of truck, she hates them, they only stick out about half the width of the bar, I think they suck i will be making new bracket's for them or throwing them away, they will make you slip and fall out of truck, mine are the flat one's they offer a full tube bar through the ford catalog has any one tried these?? May the dealer will switch them for me.

I agree with you about the bars. I just got my 99 4x4 and I have the same exact complaint. I looked underneath and looks like they're bolted in horizontally and vertically. I can't see how a bracket can be added with this setup.
I would definitely replaced them ASAP for your wife's safety. Curious if in the future people will file a class action lawsuit for unsafe equipment.
The darns things cost $400!

Ya I have them too, they are ok to get into the truck, but useless getting out. I just normally turn to the left and slip(fall) out.
the ones I have are called "cab steps" and on the window sticker it said they were $350.00. My truck is a regular cab, not sure if they are the same ones you have. They were on my truck when I got it.

Mine came with the black nerf bars. They work great for the kids. They work for the wife when she is getting in but when she is getting out she pulls a Don C and just slides out. It would be nice if they were a few more inches out.

You are right the kids use them fine our 4 yr old has no problem no if i could only find a size 5 toddler shoe to fit into. All in all in think they are lousy after paying as much as i did , who could you call to find out about getting money back or replacment with the after ,market type they sell in the ford acs. book. They look like a smitty or westin type all round with the flat's only where you step.

I spoke to the ford customers service rep , what a joke he tells me that ford has no reason to get involed with a dealer /customer problem,HE said that they where not defective so they could not be warrented. I told him they where defective by design and the dealership did'nt make them ford did. I am waiting on a call from his supr. WIll keep you posted. P.S. he was really concered about my wife she has since slipped off them. May be the class action suit isn't a bad idea??

I recently got the ICS nerf bars for my surpercab. Total cost installed 444.44. The thing that made them more expensive is that they are stainless steel rather than chrome. So they won't rust after 5 years. ICS has a website and you can look at the bars. They have been great, and shine up really well. Also, I use them to get into my truck.
I have ICS Nerf rails too and I am real happy with them. I saw the ones from Ford and thought they looked to narrow and bulky because of how they are attached. My nerf rails only attach at the very front and very back. They also seem to stick out a little further than Ford's. They only cost me $295 installed and I purchased them through my dealership when I bought the truck. They had an outside custom company installing them.

I also went through Ford Customer Service but via Internet. Anyhow I complained about the design and they kept on referring me to go to the dealer where I got the truck. I kept on emphasizing that it was a factory part and factory installed not aftermarket and installed by the dealer. Went there and of course no solution. Emailed Ford again for the 3rd or 4th time.
This time I got a hold of a rep from the local dealership. She agreed to swap them out with some running board style bars for $150. Had them installed and they stick out just a little more. They have more surface area like the bed rail covers. They're white and mount only on 2 locations vs the 5 or so the nerf bars do. They don't look rugged but I can put front mud guards w/o alterations now.
