BigblackFord,
are you a firefighter or paramedic? I see by your description you have a lightbar and siren on your truck.

Hey,
I just wanted to say "Thanks" for all the input. I just put on the Westins (black) on my truck and they look "Great!". My wife is so happy now that she can get in easier.

Thanks for all the help on Step Bars. I got the Westins too (in Chrome). Installed them myself in less than an hour. They look great and my wife and kids can climb aboard now too.

I have the Westin bars. They have been on for just over a year. While under the truck the other day I noticed several rust spots on them. The spots were small, with the largest about the size of a dime. I took them off (2 bolts each), got some chrome cleaner, and shined them up. The spots are from tiny little rock chips (yes, I do have mud flaps). I bought some wheel clear coat and sprayed the underside of the bars. Time will tell if it works, but you might want to consider it as a precaution measure. Note that all the surface rust spots were on the underside and out of sight.

>>>>Just got the Westin for my 99 SC with the powder coat semi gloss black finish. Liked the black with the wedgewood blue better. Needed em for my pregnant wife to be able to climb up into the truck. The five year warranty on the hardware and finish sold me. Cost was $198.00 and they only charged $20.00 to install, hell that was a no brainer. Crawl under the truck and do it myself or pay a professional $20.00 to put em on in 30 minutes. Really like the look of them.

I had Luverne Stainless Steel nerf bars installed at a local shop. The cost was I think $335.00 installed. They mount to the frame, and fit the four doors really good for stepping in or out.

I feel stainless is the way to go. (no rust, no chrome flacking)

Unhappy

I ordered the Smittybilt frame mount for my truck from a local shop. I was specifically looking for frame mount and not body mount. When I received my first set, the powder coat was scratched due to poor packaging from the factory. Customer Service had me return them for replacement. I opened the second set at the dealer and we both inspected them. They had the same scratching. This time the dealer and I both called Smittybilt Customer Service. Although they were very nice and offered to replace them, I am still waiting. They are supposed to be sending a set that was carefully inspected and packaged from California and not through a distributer. I hope this set makes it.

I had the Smittybilt "chrome" and they lasted about a year. However, I live at the ocean. The salt air is harsh. I called Smitybilt and they swaped them out for stainless at no additional charge. The directions were not very good and it helps if you have an extra set of hands. I would pay someone next time. I am very happy with them.......

I just received my Westins from Wrenchead.com. The had the best prices for my '97 Super Cab. I paid $223 for the chrome with free shipping. Very easy to install and they look awesome. The part number on the web site is for black with the description saying chrome. They did honor the price on the web site and shipped the right parts.

Cool

I have Rhino's Black nerf bars and was very pleased with the product as well as the ease of installation. Not only were they easy to install the instructions to do so were very clear. Took about an hour - Air tools. These bars are bolted to the frame and a bracket connects to the body but isn't seen. The nerf bars cost about $150 + shipping. I've had them on for a year no problems or regrets.

Hey Silver Bullet,
I would like to know more about the Rhino bars. I received my 3rd set of scratched Smittybilt's the other day. The shop I'm getting them through said he would give them one more chance and I agreed. If this set comes through scratched I will be looking for another source. I am specifically looking for black frame mounted bars.
