Cool Ford Bug Deflector

I would like to say that I purchased this Ford Bug Deflector yesterday for about 75.00 and it took me all of about 10 minutes to install. This has got to be the greatest thing that I have purchased so far. I was fairly priced, it looks great and it a snap to install.
If you were considering getting a bug shield then this is a great choice. Pics to come.

hey

I bought and installed one of those ford deflectors too. easy to do.

Did you install those rubber bumps on the hood like the instructions state? I feel kinda weird to stick it on the paint. I might do the opposite and stick it on the deflector.

Exclamation

Stick it on the paint! I was looking at a friends truck the other day and he had a deflector with the rubber grommets on the deflector and they rubbed through the paint!? Kind of defeats the whole purpose....

I bought my 97 used and it has the Ford bug shield. The previous owner, in his ultimate wisdom, decided to remove the rubber bumbers and now the sheild has chaffed the paint on the hood in a couple of spots. They deffinately serve a purpose. I need to see if I can get the bumpers as a separate item.

Question

Do the bug deflectors really work?
How effective are they at keeping bugs and dirt etc off the truck?
Do they help keep the rain off the windshield like they advertise?

54regcab.
No, they don't, That said I guess I should elaborate. They don't keep bugs off the windshield and I don't believe they claim to deflect rain either. The DO keep bugs and rocks from hitting the very front edge of the hood ... and they look cool.
You might want to read the "Bugflector II" thread I started, I complained and others brought up some good points.

Perhaps I wasn't specific. What I was trying to say is attach the grommets to the hood. Yes, they do serve a purpose. However, you need to look at the installation very carefully. ANY friction ANYWHERE will cause more damage than it prevents!

I took mine off......

The "bumpers" should be stuck to the hood, NOT the deflector. At speed, the deflector is pushed down towards the hood. The bumpers protect the hood from the deflector.
If the bumpers are installed on the deflector, they will wear little round holes in the paint on the hood.
Good luck.

I saw a guy once who put the rubber pads on the deflector, then to prevent rubbing on the paint he put small squares of transparent plastic on the hood (similar to the tape that is placed on the fender wells). But if you ask me it's just easier to do what they say, put the rubber pads on the hood.
