Let there be light
I'm looking to replace my existing bulbs with something brighter as I do a lot of night driving on dark country roads. I've heard several members say they have these 9007 bulbs. Are they brighter if so where do I get them?
Thanks

Lovell, I put in the 9007 superwhites and really like them. They are almost as bright as HID's -- but cost ~$40 for both (rather than ~$1200 for HID). Ordered them from this site and got them in the mail within a few days.
I had to do a lot of adjusting to get the headlights back to true. Either I didn't install them exactly right, or the bulbs are la little bit shorter/longer than OEM -- which affected the display pattern. Also, I'm not totally sure they're legal. I've driven behind several cops and haven't had any look askance at me for my lights being too bright, but...
Even with that, I'm still glad to have them.

Lovell1,
9007 bulbs are also called bright white lights, they are 40% brighter than the halogen bulbs that come with our truck, at least that's what the package says. When i installed them on my truck i definitely noticed the difference (bright white/bluish beam). It takes about 5 mins to put them both in and no adjustment is needed because they plug in right into the existing socket. But don't expect them to be like the HID's (High Intensity Discharge), i've seen a HID system installed on a 98 F-150 and these 9007 bulbs don't even come close to the intensity of the HID's, and thats why it costs around 800.00 for the HID system, less labor. You can pick up a set of 9007 bright white bulbs at Pep Boys or Kragen for 40.00 or you can order them here online. Hope this helps you out good luck!!

I put a pair of Hella driving lights in the bumper opening for about $60. They only come on when the high beams are on and there is a switch to prevent them from coming on for "city" driving. Not sure you could fit them in the 2wd opening.
I thought of adding higher wattage bulbs, but they would still be encased in the lousy DOT spec reflector/lens assembly. I was also conserned about drawing too much amperage through the rather small gauge wires.

lovell1,
The lights are on my roll bar, but I do plan on adding two more to my grille guard. I'm not sure if they can be mounted to a stock bumper. I ordered mine out of an accessory catalog for $75.00 a pair. Mine are the 165 watt, that gives out 385,000 candle power each. They make some that are 100 watt, about 200,000 candle power, still bright, and not as expensive.

You need enough light to drive 90mph down a tree-lined forest road (dirt) in the middle of the night in a snowstorm? They've got it!
Check the Hella index and Headlamps.

I too can attest to KC daylighters. I have the stainless steel housing 385,000 cp ones and have had them for over 15 years now. I mount them on a grill guard with every Ford I have had. They are indestructible and man when you throw the switch on these bad boys you can't even tell you had your high beams on. Great if you drive on the road when no one else is around otherwise totally illegal. Always interesting to watch the voltage meter drop if you ain't running over 40 mph. You need a relay of course to avoid the voltage drop and at least 10g wire. I believe they have a 10 year warranty. If you get the Stainless there is nothing to wear out except the bulb...which I have yet to replce but I really don't have that many hours on them. IMHO a HD grill guard like smitty bilt is a must on a 4X4 to make it look tough...not to mention I stuffed a deer with one and only had a headlight housing to replace and scrape off the deer hair hehe.
