Hi All,
When I took delivery of my truck a few weeks ago the signal mirrors were both scratched like someone took a brillo pad to them so I took it back and they ordered new mirrors and said it would be a week or so and they would call. They called me on Thusday and replaced them yesterday. Now I remember for sure that the drivers side one had one solid line of red bulbs and I thought the right one matched it originally. Now when I got home I looked to make sure the passenger one was blinking and it looks like its a lot wider like 1/2" with 2-3 rows of bulbs like the expedition EB series. Did my service guys screw up or does the passenger side not match the drivers side on the Lariat?

My mirrors are both the same, a single row of LED's in a ">" formation pointing away from the truck. If you have three rows of LED's you probably have an Expedition or Navigator mirror.

Thanks, Now the question is do I go back and have it replaced or just forget about it.

I'd definately take it back. No way I would be able to stand them being different.

the neighbor is a parts man at the nearby Ford dealer and he told me the other day that the signal mirror was changed to a single arrow. he also told me they got stuck with a pair for non-power mirrors, and if they kept them in stock long enough, theyed go for about half price.

but i'd get them to match. it would draw attention in a resale situation, maybe as a possible wreck.?

91 Nite, I'm probably just adding more confusion to the issue, however, I have a picture of a mirror that is advertised in the F-series accessories catalog for '99. Unfortunately this thread has the UBB code turned off so I can't paste the picture on this post. What I will do is paste the picture under the heading signal mirrors in Other Aftermarket.

Yeah the more I thought about it the more I figured they need to square it away as OEM so I called them and brought it to their attention. They said they'll take care of it and ordered another mirror. Hope its the right one this time.

91 Nite, it sounds as if your dealer put the 97/98 signal mirror on. If I'm not mistaken the 97/98 Lariats had the "fat" arrow and the 99s have the "skinny" arrow. Either way, go back and have them fix it right.

just curious...does anyone know why they went to the thinner 1-row l.e.d. signal mirror and stopped using the "fat" 3-row l.e.d. mirror?

EricA, The main reason (from what I have been told) is the older 3 row L.E.D. Signals could not be seen by the drivers of the trucks (from within).... They complained to Ford that they wanted to know when the Signal Mirrors were working..... The new ones with the single row L.E.D. can be seen as a shadow to the driver on both sides of the truck... I dont know why, but I got the newer version on my Expy (Aftermarket ones) and I think they are cleaner looking, they dont take up so much room on the mirror surface, and I think they are actually brighter then the 3 row ones... This is my opinion on them.

I got it squared away now. BTW the above post is correct. I couldn't see the ">" on the right side like I could with the single blinking >. That was irratating because I souldn't tell if it was working or not..
