Mini-Bug Deflector (and removal of Deflector)
Has anyone seen those bug deflectors that are half the size of the Ford one? I saw one on an Explorer so Im sure there is one out for the F-150, just never got the name of it. Does anyone know which one and who makes it?
Also, how can I remove the Ford bugdeflector. It has screws in existing holes under the hood but they do not tighten or loosen (just spin). Im guessing they are the type you pull out, but how do I get them off without damaging the hood?
Thanks!

O.K. bear with me here. 1)Are the screws plastic or metal? I'm guessing metal, but it would seem that they should "screw" out then.
2) Do you want to "save" the old bug deflector?
I guess you know where this is going.

You should be able to remove it. The screws are run into small plastic plugs that were put in. The plugs are probably spinning. You should be able to fit needlenose pliars between the hood and the deflector on the underside to stop them from spinning.

I've seen a smaller bug shield made by Ventshade called Hoodflector. It's advertized as a low profile hood protector for $36.95. Found it in Ford Pickups mag. 1800 228 7346 or www.autokrafters.com

The screws are metal and spinning. Id like to keep the hood deflector if its possible.

Thats exactly what there doing, they are spinning around (plastic screws). Are these the type that pull out or is the needle nose plyer method the way they come off?

I think thats what Im looking for, Ill check it out. I like the deflector I have, its just too big.

I just tried that site (autokrafters) about the bug shields. Order a catalog, the site isn't helpfull at all!!! I ended up calling the 800#. Nice people and I ordered a Lund FrontRunner for my beast. I could have gotten them to paint it for an extra $50 but I'm a bit leary of "color matched" untill I see it on the truck. So when I get it, I will decide then if I want to take it and have it painted.

I have also found that the more intricate the tool, the more cussin' is needed.
Thanks all!

Triton 46 Can you "get behind" the screw?, if so, hold a block of wood beheind the screw with pressure while at the same time turning the screws. Or put a pair of pliers (put tape around teeth) next to the screwhead on the "front" and behind the back of screw (on the screw) and squeeze them while turning the screwhead.
If this fails, get out the "Dremel." One of my favorite tools is my "Dremel" When you gotta have one, nothing else will do. Great at cutting all kinds of stuff. I would see if I could use the cutting tool to cut the heads off the screws and then use the smallest drill bit to go through the center of each if that didn't get them out.
Also, don't foget to use colorfull language while trying any of the above, it seems to help.
