Bulb replacment help....please
Bulb replacment help....please
Ok guys I have a 2k 4x4 expy. Install some the black projector lights, look really nice with the black truck. the only problem is they use these dinky h1 bulbs for high and low beam. I have tried silverstar h1 makes a minor improvment, not noticable while on the road. Does anyone know if there is a bulb swap for the H1. I am already running a relay setup getting ready to mod it so I can run highs and lows at the same time. They dont sugest running HIDs with the projectors.
Any suggestions???

You're pretty much stuck with H1's as far as what will physically fit in the slots. There are a number of places out there selling higher wattage H1's, but there's a pretty big crack down on those folks. The higher wattage bulbs also bring up some wiring issues (fried harnesses) with your stock harness due to the increased load. The projector systems also have a unique problem in that there's not an awful lot of room inside the houseing to dissipate heat. Higher wattage bulbs = more heat. More heat with no place to go = cracked lenses. I'd suggest staying with the Silverstars and be happy.
I have found this mod. Do you think it might work with the projector light set?

As an engineer, I wouldn't recommend it. Most folks seem to understand (eventually) what lens and reflector do for your lights. Very few seem to understand that filament placement is also a critical design factor. As soon as you start messing with that, all bets are off. If you don't get it right, the lights won't work right.
Ever see an F-150 coming at you with one headlight that looks really weird? Nine times out of ten, it's got a 9004 bulb instead of a 9007 installed in the socket. The only difference between the two is one has a horizontal filament and one has vertical. Look how bad that one "minor" change screwed up the lighting!
Like I said in my previous post, you can go with higher wattage H1's, but the projector system really limits your options. Good luck!
