Black Taillights

You break the tail light down to just the lens, and then sand the inside of the lens in order for paint to stick. Then just shoot the inside of the lens with whatever color you are wanting to tint the light and wahlah! a tinted tail light lens. I believe the one they did was tinted blue and looked pretty sweet when they were done. You can also do this to the outside of the lens, but I don't think you would be street legal then.

Well the ones I got seem to have to tint on them. And the guy I got them from said they were DOT approved. Who knows if this is actually true or not. A LOT of light still passes through, so maybe they are. Either way they look good, and I haven't had any authorities say anything to me yet. ::knock on wood::
The tinting is by no means is a new process. My brother and I did a few of our cars back in high school over 15 years ago.
We actually bought a can of the stuff for tinting windows. That's what they sold it as "spray on window tint". Don't try it on your windows! It just makes a huge mess!
But we decided to experiment and tried it on side marker lights on a black car and it looked cool. So one thing led to another and we ended up doing our tailights.
BTW, back then the stuff sold for $1.99 a can. Quite the inflation, 10 bucks a can now???
Just a hint, it's best to remove the tailights, lay them flat, and apply VERY light coats. Ten light coats comes out WAY better than one heavy coat which WILL run onto the floor! Also, warming them up with a hair dryer helps alot too. But don't melt them!

Yep, dont do it so thick it is running all over! But you do want it thick enough so that the finish isnt "gritty". Just do the coat as thin as possible and as many times as is necessary! Works great, I am just waiting to do it to the 04!

go to the tech section. theres an article on how to paint your tail lights. or you can go the cheap route and get the covers... ive done both (not at the same time) the covers collect dirt and dust behind them though. not very cost effective.
This post is 6 years old dude...
