Question molded factory splash guards

Does anyone know how to remove those big metal rivets that Ford used on their rear factory splash guards? I have an 01 Lariat that has a damaged one and I have the new replacements but I am worried about damaging the bottom of the fender where the rivet goes through. I tried bending the tabs but they just broke off and the thing still won't budge. I was thinking about drilling it but thought twice about it and chickened out. Other option is take it to a dealership. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The rivets you are talking about are plastic. They just push in with your hands. I ripped mine out with a screwdriver and pliers.
