Trying to find that stuff that when applied will create a random, geometric crackly effect in the paint? I know I saw it somewhere before but was thinking of using it on some interior pieces....

I know it's not much to go on, but does anybody know what I'm talkin about?

It's called (oddly enough) 'Crackle Medium'. It's not a paint, but rather a 'middle coat' that goes between the base coat and the top coat.

Generally, after prime coating a piece of furniture, you would put on a base coat. This is the color that will show through in the 'cracks'. When dry, you add a coat of the crackle medium. Follow the instructions, as I believe you are only to brush it in one direction. When it is dry, paint on the top coat. I think you're supposed to put on one coat and not rebrush this coat either. You should see the crackling effect almost right away. Let it dry overnight and then follow up with poly, light sanding, more poly, etc.

I've recalled this from memory. It would be a good idea to follow the directions on the can. That should also tell you whethere to use oil based or water based paints.

The reason I thought of it, was because I was at a car show today, and saw an old ford coupe, done in dark green, with this black crystalline pattern done all over the body. looked pretty wild.

sent an email to HOK just to see if they might know as well.

My bad. My main hobby is woodworking and when you mentioned 'interior pieces', my brain thought 'furniture'. Happens when you inhale too much sawdust. That's where I pulled the crackle medium from.

The product you mentioned looks as if it could create some really interesting effects. Might even make some cool accents in wood furniture. hmmm.....
