Newbie with a quick question

Hi guys. I'm new here and I was just wondering if the '96-'97 F-150 hood will fit on the '96 Ford Explorer. It is my wifes truck but she has given me permission to spice it up a bit, so aside from the $1200 Saleen hood for it. What else will fit? Id the bolt pattern the same as the F-150? I really like the '98(?) Sport (?)wheels, 5 star design, and would like to get a set for her truck.

My strong points are in the Thunderbirds, Mustangs and Cougars, but I want in on the 4X4 fun too.

Thanks for any help.

Technically the old body style came in 97's too.

I wouldn't see why it wouldn't fit. Just make sure it's for the older of the 97's body style.

It's that body style right there. Didn't the F150's stay the same and the 250's and up got the makeover? Guess the only real way to know for sure if it will fit, is to go to a scrap yard and get a hood.

No it would swap with an expy, but not an explorer. Explorers have much smaller bodies than the F150's. The 97-up lug pattern for the F150/expy is 5x135mm, not sure what the explorers had. BTW expy=expedition.

Thanks man. I guess I will have to make my own hood for it then like I did with my Cougars. And then, get off my *** and measure the bolt pattern.

I just read the original post. an explorer is like half the size of an F150 so the hoods will most def not swap. wheels from a mustang will fit on the 96 and older ones I think. I know Mustangs, Crown Vics/Grand Marquis, and Rangers are all the same for most years, the explorer is prolly the same too.

Thumbs up

Ranger hood should fit, and there are tons of Ranger hoods out there. Some of them look better than the ones offered for F-150's anyway. Try looking here and giving them a call about the fitment.,,,,98
