headlight cover mod?

Hello,

I am new to these forums but from what I can see there is a lot of great info being shared here.

I recently bought a F150 Heritage Edition pickup truck and I have been trying to jazz it up a little.

I purchased AVS headlight covers (smoke) and i find that they are little dark when driving at night.

I was wondering if anyone has tried to mod their after market headlight covers?

I am thinking about cutting holes or a pattern in them to allow more light through.

What are your thoughts on this?

TiA

Return them and buy the euro covers with the clear circles over the lamps if you want light to pass through. Don't try to cut those, You WILL break them. And if you do get them cut don't do slots, it'll mess with your light beam against the road.
Most states have a law against those things anyway. DOT says that a vehicles lights must pass the color light for which it was intended. Look on the box, it says for off road use only.
Back when I was in high school I had some on a car. I took them off each night and put them back on in the morning. A pain in the @ss, but if that is the look your going for you may have to do that.

Check out this link for the ones that I am referring to:

My buddy had some on his avenger. He made them into projector style by using a hole saw. Ended up looking pretty nice and also let more light through. Like edgex said though, be careful about breaking them.

HAd them on my Ranger

After awhile the look got kind of old, plus a cop stopped me and made me take them off cause they diffuse the light. I was tryin to take them off at night for awhile and put them back on but just got lazy and decided to get rid of them. In fact as I write this it occurs to me they were still jammed behind the bench seat of the Ranger when I traded it in.

Those things could break like someone else said if you try to cut them. As others mentioned, youd be better off exchanging them. If you f@ck them up while cutting you're out the 40-50 bucks, whereas its no work and no risk to just take them back right now as they are.

They have black projector headlights for our trucks now, you might consider those. Also have the black euros like I have (see sig). You can get either kind for around 200 for heads + corners. I regret ever having blackouts, but I bought them when I didnt have much money to spend. Once I started full time, I ditched the covers and got new headlights. If you want full light output and the black color you might consider those two options.

hey MAC[H]Z

nice truck

hey is that your front bumper or a spoiler/combo?

the reason i ask is i have seen a trucklike that around here...my rig is different with a spoiler (i guess) under the chrome bumper.

i noticed your fog lights are in there while mine are in the spoiler.

i am thinking of painting it black...it is a flat dark grey right now..

i also thought of painting with that chrome paint....hehe might look too cheesy though

They both look awesome!

MAC[H]Z and eposey can you guys help a newb out and post some links to site where they sell your headlights?

I have tried searching from Google.com for F150 after market lights but I have yet to see anything like what you have.

TiA

PS I have removed my smoked covers for now... I decided to buy whole new light kits instead.

Do you have any recommendations for halogen headlight bulbs (blue ones)?

Thanks for the advice!!!

I got my heads and corners from www.procarparts.com for around $200. I think Machz are carbon fiber probeam covers. Don't quote me on that though.

For the bulbs, if you really want the blue look, you should invest in some HID lighting. Very expensive but I have heard it is well worth it. If you want good light output for the money get the Sylvania SilverStars. They are not blue, but a brilliant white over the factory yellowish tint. I'd say those are the best bang for the buck. About $30-40 at Autozone or Advance Auto Parts.

I got the regular smoked covers, and painted them body colour.
I don't use them much because the look is kinda 80's, but when I do, I make sure I remove them at sunset.

Here are my headlight covers (hood and wheels are photoshopped):

I haven't had problems with them and police, however I do notice reduced light on the highbeams....I usually drive with my lows and fogs on anyway..
