You have to remove the trim cover on the inside of the door, opposite the mirrors and also the door panel to get access to the three nuts that hold the mirrors on.

Here is the detailed steps:

Trim Panel, Front Door

Removal

1. Pry the front door trim moulding and remove.

2. Pry the rear view mirror mounting hole cover (17K709) and remove.

3. If equipped, remove the window regulator switch plate (14524) on driver side.

1 Carefully pry the window regulator switch plate.

2 Disconnect the four electrical connectors.

4. Remove the front door trim panel pushpins.

5. Remove the front door handle.

1 Remove the front door handle screw cover.

2 Remove the front door handle screw.

3 Remove the front door handle.

6. If equipped, remove the window regulator handle (23342).

1 Separate the handle cover from the handle.

2 Remove the screw.

3 Remove the window regulator handle.

4 Remove the spacer.

7. Lift the front door trim panel (23942) to release the 11 hangers.

8. If equipped, twist the courtesy lamp bulb socket one quarter turn and remove the socket from the front door trim panel.

9. Remove the front door trim panel.

If you want drawings, goto www.muthco.com.

Select th type F-150 you have, as if you are purchasing the mirrors, and one it shows the kit, you can download the pdf file for the install, which shows how to take off the door panel, and mirror head. Ignore the part about taking out the glass from the mirror head, as this is where you would put on your new heads.

Good luck
