Front End Full Protection Bras
Front End Full Protection Bras
I'm thinking about getting one for my SCREW as I'm going to be putting a bunch of highway miles on it pretty soon and the rock chips that come along with highway driving drive me crazy.
Does anyone have any pictures or suggestions? I'm kinda starting at step #1 here so, any and all comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks fellas...

3M Scotchcal is what I recommend. It is sold by a few different companies cut specifically for your vehicle. Stongard, Xpel, and Invinca Sheild are a few companies. A friend of mine has Stongard on his car and love it. I just bought Invina Shield for my new truck, but have not yet put it on. I ordered a hood piece that basically goes straight across instead of following the lines of the hood like their site shows. Costs a little more, but worth it.
I would much rather use clear plastic film than a large black bra.

RP i figured you wouldnt want one of those. That is so if the rocks that cause the chips may leave behind some kind of residue you could research and search them out and have them to get you a new paint job. Thats just what i thought since your the best Rockamologist we all know.
I don't pics yet, digital camera died. But trust me I had bought a Colgan bra and it fits perfectly. I got it from stylinconcepts for $79.95 plus shipping and exchange made it $145.00 but still worth it. I had researched different companies but I like the Colgan and Harley #356 has one for is HD and looks great on his. Check out his pictures.
I was getting stone chips on the inside back bumper and I had it repainted and then they applied the 3M product and looky looky, now I have stone chips in the coating and also chips on the new paint. I was not going this option for the front of my truck. I actually like the look of the black bra on the front of the white truck. After a little armor all and the bugs just wipe off.
I will try to borrow a camera later today or tomorrow.

Hey All™,
I for one, don't really like the bra concept. I understand the need, and use of them, just don't like them. I prefer to just keep a good coat of wax on the front, but I also know this will only help with the bugs, and do little about the rock problem. Good luck.

P.S. First time I've tried to add my album, lemme know if this doesn't work, and how to fix it.
Thanks,
Glen

Thanks a bunch guys.
APT, I really like that 'invisible film' concept. It's just kinda pricey! I'd really like to have that but, I'm struggling to spend that type of $ on the front end when it's already knicked up slightly. I really need to do some touch-up/sanding/polishing but, I'm not sure when that's going to happen.
I was really thinking that a bra (even though, like Phin, I really don't like them that much) would offer pretty complete protection without the high cost of the film coatings.
Highway miles suck because of bugs and rocks. We all know that. I guess I was looking for a temporary fix that could be put on and taken off with ease that would provide protection for those crappy highway miles...
Any other suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks again guys. I really appreciate it.

I have had bras on my other vehicles but always thought they looked kind of funny on the truck but I think the stone chips look a lot worse and now I love it.
For 3 years I only had 1 chip on the bumper but now in the past 11 months since I commute from my new place I have over a dozen chips. All of the chips were on the front bumper, none on the front grill.
I guess it depends on your model of truck too. All of my front bumper is painted so if you have a chrome bumper it may not be as bad. I actually thought of putting a new chrome bumper on but that was pretty pricey.
When you go on the highway, it only takes 5 minutes to put on and then you get back you can take it off. I leave mine on all the time, except to wash 1-2 times per week.
I will post pics tomorrow...

Go back to your Ford dealer & get one there ($120.00). They fit the best!!!
I have one on my F150 for the last 4 yrs. now , I Love it!!!
Go to my gallery . I think there is a pic in there. I looked at alot of bras & the Ford one is by far the best looking & the best fit.

You are quite handy when it comes to paint and body care so this shouldn't be a problem for you. I paid about $120 shipped for select pieces from the F-150 kit. That includes everything you need for installtion except IPA to clean the surface prior. I requested a larger hood piece that goes a straight across from the sides, instead of the 4" wide one that follows the hood line. $92 for the extended standard kit, minus 20% discount right now. Based on my '99 experience, the 4" wide strip won't do much. You get some sample pieces to test and an instructional video too.
A few people I know have this stuff and love it. Also, all over the net it is very highly praised. Sorry, too many people I have heard of the vinyl ones rubb the paint when sand/dirt gets stuck under.
I have not installed my kit because of dents in the hood from delivery of my new truck. Until that is resolved (maybe new hood?), I won't bother installing my stuff. So, it sits in a box. I already have a chip I'll need to fill before installing, though. Bummer.
