Finally got Neal's hood scoup on
Finally got Neal's hood scoup on
Hay Neal, remember this scoop? It's only been a year.
I've included some pictures because I can't beleave how well it fits the contours of the hood. It looks like it was made for the F-150, not the Mustang.
This first picture also shows my lower grill installed.

This is a good one of the scoop

This last one really shows how it fits the contours of the hood

All in all I am quite pleased with the end result. Especially considering I painted the scoop from a can using Duplicolor paint and clear coat (using 1500 wet sand paper between coats and before final buff) . It's not yet functional but will be as soon as I figure out a way to keep water off the engine.

HI!... WLF : Well it's about time!
How did you end up mounting it? I used a spring loaded locking washer to lock down the rear plastic pin and fabbed up two aluminum "L" brackets for thevery front. The only problem was that around 55MPH the rear of the hood scoop would lif off the hood. At over 120MPH there would be like a 1/2" gap because the rear edges would lift up. I ended up using windsheild urethane to hold it to the hood with the other fasteners. Plus I built up a directionary air dam to direct the incoming air flow into the port in the hood. This helped out great and no more scoop lift. Been tested up to 135MPH!

Neal,
I cut both the forward and rear mount off about ¼ inch short of hitting the hood with the scoop flat on the hood (after removing the wings on both sides of the front underneath). I did this by removing a little at a time until I got the right height. Next I used two-part epoxy “instant steel” to glue two 5/16” stainless bolts into the mounts (I had to remove the head of the rear bolt to get it to fit). I also drilled holes into the sides of the two mounts so the epoxy could spill out thru the holes and better hold the bolts in place. After that it was just a matter of drilling the holes in the right place on the hood so the bolts would slip thru mounting the scoop with washers and nuts. I have had it to 90mph with no flex or lifting but then it is not yet opened in the front like yours probably is. When I am finished with my hood then I will also use 3M mounting tape to hold the sides and rear. I’m sure that will really hold it in place.
I plan to remove the scoop soon to do some work on my hood so I will take some pictures of the way I altered the mounts for the stainless bolts if you want to see it.
ROUSHFAN-1,
I think Neal already answered your question about what year it came from. I really like the height of the scoop and the way it fits the hood. It turned out to be a nice inexpensive custom touch.

Yeah, Neal...
How much and do you have pics of the raw scoop showing attachment method?

HI!... WLF : Don't bother wasting your time with the 3M automotive double sided tape. It's good for emblems but not the scoop. I tried that 1ST and after a few weeks it wouldn't stick to the scoop anymore. It doesn't like to get wet.
If you want to see detailed pics of how I cut my hood port under the hood scoop take a look in my GALLERY. The best way I have found so far to mount this scoop is to use some hardware and the windsheild urethane.

NEAL,
Actually the way I have the two bolts thru the hood holds the scoop very secure. Today I had it up to 90mph with no movement of the scoop. I was using the 3m more as a buffer to keep the scoop from working the paint off the hood then anything else but your idea of windshield urethane will work and add some security.
I am working on a water collection tray so I can open the hood. Just don't want to have water running directly down on the engine.
