you generate static when your in the car and then you touch your truck and it discharges. its normal esp in the winter, im not sure why the nerf bars are making it suddenly apparent. Just make sure to touch your truck before you fill up on gas.
I also noticed getting shocked more after installing my Westin Black nerf bars. The factory uphostery builds up a lot of static electricity when sliding off the seat. I just figured I'm grounding out when my foot touched the metal bar.. Or maybe it's a conspiracy.
Where can you get those 'strips'? Not sure I've ever heard of them or know what you're talking about...

Its hard to beleive that this article was even still there. I did the search through google and this was the only thing that came even close to the subject.

I am sure you could get them at any of the local parts stores. If not there, then JC Whitney would have them. My dad had them on his truck and swore by them. Me I just put up with the jolts.
The dryer the weather the more static build up. You most likely will notice that in the winter months you get shocked more then in the summer months and that is due to the "air" being dryer, much less moisture in it.
In the winter months when I have more static build up I just simple touch my door with the back of my hand and barely feel any shock.
I have seen those strips before, and in my opinion they look tacky and like something is coming off the truck.
Also in the winter months before fueling my truck I just ground it out and discharge the static by touching the gas pump nozzel to the metal fuel door, works great...
Just kidding...

I know those are tacky and that is why I asked if anyone remembered them from the cool days of the late 80's. They have to be the most ugly things I have every seen. They were always hanging from the bumper of a car that had the rear end jacked up. AH the good old days. lol
