Amp choices

For now i'am running the stock CD head unit with an Audio Control Three.1 EQ, a crossfire 35/4 to some old soundstream mids and tweets in the front and the stock speakers in the rear. The bass consists of one JL10W6 in a Supercrew box from subbox.net. I'am looking at the following amps to run mono into 3 ohms, any advice? thanks

JL500/1-$375.OO
JL250/1-$279.00

Audiobahn A1300HCX-$385.00
Audiobahn A3201X-$

Crossfire BMF600D-$312.00
BMF200.2-$381.00
TEK400.1-$215.00
TEK150.1-$290.00

HIFONICS Z600EL-$308.00
Class D 500- $312.00
X1-THOR- $292.00

Fosgate BD500.1-$365.00

IMHO I would go with the JL250/1. Most features and best build and sound quality. The JL also takes into account the actual load of the sub at any given point in time. A circuit called RIPS. It will deliver its rated power at any load between 1.5 to 4ohms.

I like crossfire too. A subsonic filter is not needed with a sealed box. It MAY help, but I doubt it. A subsonic filter is useful with a ported box when playing freq below the boxes tuning freq. (SPL designed systems)

The JL amp has a better sound quality IMO than the crossfire. the crossfire will deliver more power, but I don't think it would be warranted in this case.

Ascii Amp shipment

Ascii, Carstereotime shipped the Amp on wednesday and i received it today(thurs). The Amp is brand new. I read the owners manual for the warranty. The manual said all returns must be accompanied by the original sales receipt. If you don't have your receipt JL Audio will check the actual production date of the item to determine the start time of the warranty. carstereotime provided me great service and i would recommend them for their prices.

If you want clean tight bass go for a traditional class A/B design such as the Hifonics. Class D is more efficient but not as clean and usually offers lower damping specs (that's what keeps the cone from flapping while returning from extension).

I'm actually doing some history research on Stephen Mantz who has done a lot of amplifier designs for other manufacturers such as Autotek, Rodek, Hifonics, Lanzar, Planet Audio, Hollywood Sound, Crunch and more at: http://members.shaw.ca/pferlow/rodek.htm

As far as I know JL doesn't build anything themselves, even their subs, it's all made by someone else to JL's specs. I like their new W7 subs but their pricing can kiss my a--.

$249 for the Hifonics Z600 here: http://www.sound-creations.com/item.vep?sku=Z600

I bought my Audiobahn Alum12 sub from them a couple years ago. Good service. But check they have it in-stock before handing over your credit card info!

It appears the Z6000 is the new model... same power output and higher price. But still not 3ohm bridged capable... may work but will run hot at high output.

For 3 ohms try the Hifonics XI Samson with around 375wrms into 3ohms bridged (goes down to 2ohms) and the Hifonics XI Thor for around 550wrms into 3ohms.

Unfortunately their website doesn't show damping or detailed specs.
