Question opinion on sony amps

I haven't had any experience with Sony amps, but I found a good deal on a Sony Xplod XM3001SXD. It is a class D 1000 watt amp (stable at 1 ohm).
Will it be too much of a step down from my Precision Power amp?

a buddy of mine that sells them said that they're "pretty" and thats about it. Take my advice- go with MTX or alpine.

I have to agree with Ruune. I like Sony decks and pretty much everything else they make but go with an MTX if you want true Class D performance. When I scratch some money together and make a few more payments on my truck I am going to install the Tunder 6500D (775w x 1 @ 2 ohm). Be careful of the price, MTX equipment is usually not sold in big chain stores.

I also like the MTX amps. The 6500d is not a true digital amp. They are actually a hybrid class d a/b. This gives them a better sound quality than a pure class d. With the 6500d I don't even run MTX 6000 series subs. Go with 8000 series. the amp is just too much.

I have only heard 1 sony amp, and it was, as my buddy who runs
a car audio shop said, "a gutless turd." Ofcourse, he used that
same term to describe the voltage output on the pioneer deck too :O) Anyway, I wasn't very impressed with this supposedly megawatt sony xplod amp. Why are you changing from the Precision Power amp? I would think going from a PP amp to a sony xplod would be quite a downgrade.

I like my Precision Power amp, it is just too small. I would like a bigger amp now. I guess I should not have gone for the minimum size and cost, but hey, I was still in college when I got it...
