Tap into signal source

Just bought a 2012.

Has power , ground , remote all ran to the back already. Looks like previous owner had his own system and removed it for sale, just no RCA"s . I want to put amp and sub.
Screws are stripped to remove trim to head unit which is a **** off so I'm wondering if I can just steal the signal for the sub some how from either the factory Sony subs amp or the factory speakers amp? Possible? Again all power and aux power is there and confirmed . Just need signal for amp.

You could use a line out converter and tap into the rear speaker wires to get an rca signal. That's how I did the sub install in my truck using an AudioControl LC2i.

You would need an amp that can accept speaker level inputs, and you would still need to tap into the wires that are the input to the sony amp. Using the outputs from the sony amp as speaker level inputs is going to cause problems since the new amp would be expecting something with the power of the stock headunit coming in.

If your new amp only has rca inputs then you'll need a line out converter which can be picked up pretty cheap. Same concept still applies, either tap into the rear door speakers or tap into the sony amp wiring harness on it's input side.

Thanks , think I got it . Converter from speakers , and don't tap anything after the amp. Just head unit . Just one more thing . I can use just one speaker right ? On one door? And that speaker will still work.

You'll need to use two speakers. Otherwise you'll only be getting half the signal and it'll sound spotty at best. It's pretty easy to get access to the rear speaker wires on either side once you pull out the rear seat back and then you can just tuck all the wiring up behind the matting on the rear wall.

And yes, both speakers will still work properly.

I lost you . The rear speakers in the doors both enter the door at the grommets on respective sides . Without taking the deck out ( stripped screws ) how to I catch both wires that are on either side of truck?

So would 2 speakers on the same side like both passenger doors work?

I have the wiring diagrams for a 2013 with the sony amp. The wire colors may be different on a 12 but the outputs are still on the center plug, the sub output is on the front plug along with the power. The rear is the inputs and sync. On the 13's the sony amp is under the center console below the shifter, probably the same place on a 12.

Just save the images you want to your computer so you can zoom in and see them clearly.

Either under the tread plates like Patman said or right before they leave the cab and go into the grommets for the doors. Either way you'll need a set of wire taps to tap into them. And you'll want the same set of speakers on opposite sides of the cab. Either the front two doors or the rear two doors. Otherwise your only getting half the signal again since audio is generally split into a left and right channel.

Would you by chance happen to have the wiring diagram for this lc2i? I have a 2013 F-150 Lariat. Sure could use some help.
