Finding the right amp

So I just got a ROCKFORD FOSGATE P2D2-8 8" Punch P2 2-ohm sub and I am looking to get a amp for it. RMS is 250 on the sub so I am looking at mono block class D 250RMS amps. Am I on the right track?

Also does anyone know if anyone makes a box the for a 8" sub that is the same size as the stock one in the 09-13 models.

The stock box is too small for the stock sub and for that sub anyways. If you can build one to the specs the sub requires that'd be the way to go.

As for amps you need one that can do 250rms, I'd say get one that can do more though so you can prevent clipping and give yourself room to expand or upgrade later, at either a 1 or 4ohm load.

I'm just confused on the ohm's. I'm pretty new to this and thought that you would want a 2 ohm amp for a 2 ohm sub.

It's dual voice coil so each one is 2 ohms. Therefore it can be wired to final load of 1ohm or 4ohms.

Is 1 or 4 ohm's better? Or does it not really matter?

4ohm will run the amp cooler and less current draw, but it'll be more expensive for an amp to do 250 at 4 over 1ohm.

Thanks pizzamaan I think I think I am gunna go with the 4 ohm because I'm only looking for 300-350 watt rms and I found several around the 150 range.

My only problem now is the box. I don't want to be able to see the box I want it to seem like there is nothing there, so I think I am just going to try and build my own box and see what it looks like.

you found an amp that will do 350 watts at 4 ohms for 150 bucks? what amp? because most quality amps are $1/watt.

stick with brands such as rf, memphis, jl, hertz, maybe even pioneer and jvc if you want cheap. avoid sony, alpine, boss, etc

JL JX360/2 does 360 at 4 ohm's bridged. Just bought one for 114, I guess I got one for 60% off. I think JL is a quality brand.

Yup jl is a good brand, and that's a great price for them. Normally there stuff can get kinda pricey because people will pay for the name and they know it.

I've never heard the 1$ per watt thing though before, good thing too or I would've been broke on my last install haha, it can get up there but I haven't seen it like that yet.

When you build the box make sure you use lots of bracing inside of it (the pressure waves from sub's can destroy an otherwise good box really fast). It'll get really heavy really fast but just think of it as theft protection ha. And seal it up really well with silicon. Not as much of an issue with a ported box, but should still be done if you want a good sound. I've built more sub boxes than I'm willing to admit, and I learned these things the hard way...
