Old Phoenix Gold?

Does anyone still run Phoenix Gold stuff?

Anyone like PG?

And now, my main question... does anyone know where I can get the optional neons for this thing?! Cause that would make my day.

I got the amp for free a while back...

Old Phoenix Gold is great stuff, way underrated and stable at crazy ohm loads with good electrical. Their new stuff isn't what it used to be unfortunately though. If I had to guess on a place to get those neons, either try to source it off of a blown amp or try calling them up.

Cool, I guess I'll give that a try. I'm still new to car audio, but even a few years ago, I knew the PG name. Now, all I see on these boards are the "higher-end" brands.

Do you have any suggestions for an amp to push 2 10" Type-R's? Somewhere in the $200 range would be nice.

2ohm or 4ohm for the subs? Look for a used Audioque AQ1200, should be around $200 shipped and it is 870W @ 2Ohm, 1200W @ 1Ohm

I'm getting ready to buy the subs, so I could go either way. The most I want to spend on an amp is $300 if that opens up any options...

I've seen plenty of Hifonics for sale, but not sure on those.

The New Type-R's have a power handling of 600W RMS each, around or above 1200W would be good. I would suggest looking on caraudioclassifieds for used higher end amps or the AQ1200 is ~$280 brand new. Some of the other guys will be able to comment on some other good amps

Audioque will definitely be the best bet if you wanna buy it new, used opens up a lot of options though. You can pick up sundowns, crescendos, mmats, etc.

Well, the subs will be here tomorrow. I found a good deal on the SWR-1223D's. Would you guys still recommend the AQ1200, or something that would push more power at 2 ohms? I've got some pretty strange ideas for an enclosure, too.

I'm almost tempted to save up for an Alpine amp, just to match the subs. Maybe the MRX-M100 or the PDX-M12...

Alas, after searching, I learned that the PG neons can be found under TBNEON8, and I guess I'll just have to get lucky down the road...

Those look like standard 4" or 6" cold cathodes, you can pick them up online all day long for like 5 bucks. I would get something that'll do more at 2 ohms, I'd get something that'll do at least 1300 or so at two ohms to allow you room to turn it up and not have to worry about clipping the amp. Kicker stuff is generally pretty powerful at a 2ohm load.

Some have said the PDX M-12 doesn't very good low end but he attributed it to too high of gain on his previous amp:

That would be a good amp if you wanted to spend the money tho

I used their stuff for a few years back in the day when i competed. Then i had a few of their amps sitting collecting dust so i decided to do a "small" install in the wife's SUV

Those old PG amps are awesome, extremely clean power and zero floor noise.

So, I still haven't bought my PDX-M12 yet. I've been distracted with other projects... but now I've been looking into wiring kits. Is this one worth it?

I was shopping around Lowes, and I realized they have SPOOLS of 1/0 cable sold by the foot... Is there anything wrong with using this cable?

Knu wire is great! Definitely worth it, very high quality wire, oversized and very flexible.

Nothing wrong with using that kind of cable, it'll work just as good but generally its not fine strands (knu has like 5000+ some strands) its more like 12 because its generally welding wire/stuff for a house sold there so its not flexible at all which makes install kinda a pain.
