So many choices

Ok so i have found myself in a weird situation with amp choice. I am trying to figure out what configuration i should run with my layout. Right now i have Power bass XXX 6 1/2 components in the front and Polk audio 5x7 in the rear. I also have a sundown SA10D4 downfiring in a custom center console. My headunit is a pioneer 910BT Double din. So my question to ya'll is with my current layout and adding a center channel what amp config should i use? I have run through the idea of a five channel For the doors and center and for the sub running a seperate amp. What do ya'll think?

PS: Sorry for being long winded. Any helpful comments will be appricated.

yes...go with 2 amps....get a mono amp for the sub and use a 4 or 5 channel for the mids and highs....i have mids and tweets on all doors on a 400x4 amp and my 2 subs are on a 3000x1 mono amp...

so which five channel do you think i should go with sense not all of the amps i have seen can play highs and mids through the 5th channel.i know JL makes one that is a 900/5 and i heard nothing but good reviews on it.

Well I have never run a center speaker in any vehicle, but ill try to help some.

That JL 900/5 wont work for you, because the fifth channel is for a sub woofer only. You can find some 6 channel amp's like the JL Audio XD600/6.

I think most high end systems would use two or more amps instead of one amp to power all of the full range speakers. Adding a fifth speaker or center channel is not the easiest thing to do. It can be very difficult to achieve good sound without the use of a processor like the JBL MS8.

My advice would be to use a four channel amp to power the four door speakers and another amp to power the sub like you mentioned earlier. If you are not happy with the results, then look into adding more to the system like a center channel.

Time alignment and proper door treatment like sound deadening also play a huge factor in sound quality.

Check out the DIYMA.com forums too for some good info.

i have dynamat from floor to roof and a extra layer of fatmat in the outer door skins. so i think i am covered on the sound deadnening and i also sealed my doors as much as i could without effecting my windows and draining.. I think the sounds proofing is pretty good. At 75 i am only hearing with windows up 74db and thats with running flowmaster 40 series exhaust. Haha thats funny you mention diyma cause i am a member over there to. The biggest thing i was running into is if a center channel will give the system a complete sound. But i am probably going to go with either the alpine PDX4.100 or the JL HD four channel with the mono amp to match so i can stack them.

I have never used Dynamat, but I have been told Alpha Damp is the "best."

I used Fatmat in my truck and it worked ok for me at first. Now after being in my truck for a year, its starting to peel in a few spots.

I thought the Texas summer sun would have done it, but its actually the cold weather that is affecting it. The foil top part comes right off, leaving the black rubber goo behind.

When it warms up some I'm going to remove it from my doors and replace it with something else. The rest of the truck will keep the Fatmat because it does work alright and I'm too lazy to remove and replace it lol.
