likewise for me -- haven't been into car audio for a few years.

I have been researching and my price/performance/reliablity meter is telling me the Alpine PDX F4 is a pretty sure thing and is in the sub-$400 price range.

Kicker also makes some good stuff but my current thinking is it is worth it to spend a little more for the Alpine gear.

The older Alpine multi channels were known to have a little noise to them. Not sure about the new PDX.

I had Kicker not long ago. Good for amps for subs and that is all I am saying.

$400 can get you quite a bit for a 4 channel. Even more if you go looking for used.

Some good options to start with and I am going to max out your budget on this.

This thing is tiny but does rated power.

Or almost the exact same thing but cheaper. It was what I run my tweeters and rear fill off of.

I have a Alpine PDX-F4 and I like it.

What speakers are you planning on using?

If you find an amp you want check out http://pacificstereo.com/ they will price match most online prices. They are an authorized dealer, so that way you get the best price and get a manufacturer warranty.

Fantastic responses..I really appreciate it..I'm liking that Focal..I don't really like modular plug connections like the alpine..I like the old fashioned screw terminals..

I have an Infinity Kappa four in my truck and it sounds nice, even using a line out converter I don't get any hissing or noise that is noticable between songs.

Checking out that price matching thing -- factory authorized makes all the difference when deciding where to order.

Thx for that link

No problem they email you a coupon code. Sometimes it takes a day or two, also will end up in the spam folder sometimes.

They sure did email it to me and the aquisition of the components for the 800 W Alpine audio project for my 2011 FX2 has officially begun. Starting with two Alpine PDX-F4 amps (one for door speakers, one bridged for subs), Alpine SPR-60C components and Alpine SPR-68's for the rear doors (yes, the 68's are going to be a tight fit but I can make it work).

I'll probably install the door speakers sometime in the next 2-3 weeks and get the amps situated (but not operational) in late August. That will have to wait for the Alpine HU and subs which will probably happen in early October. So, hoping to have everything together, running and tuned by Halloween. I like working on stuff like this gradually so I have plenty of time to think and plan
