5 channel or a 4 channel and sub amp are pretty much personal preference. Some prefer higher wattage sub amps than available in a 5 channel. Alpine PDX is a good unit.

I have a JBL GTO 5355. I like it so far. No complaints.

DONT get an Infinity Reference 5350a. They blow after a short amount of time and you cannot get them fixed. Mine blew 1 day after my warranty was up and couldnt get it fixed. I know of some other people who has had theres blown after a short amount of time as well.

Here is a link of all the 5 channel amps from sonic electronix. I used them to buy my amp and speakers.

5 channel amps vs 4 channel and mono

5 channels usually command a premium in price, have less power than comparable 4/mono setup, but they are usually easier to install and require less power cable/ground being ran and such.

I guess the big questions: are what speaker/sub setup are planning on using, what is your budget, and do you have a space limitation on where you plan to install the amp(s)?

There are a some decent 5 channel amps out there that are not budget killers.

Here are two that others have liked.

Well I have an alpine 4x50 now and Polk db571 almost enuf need a little more.
I think I have decided to add a sub and mono amp.
So now new questions I like country and some top 40 not rumbling bass like it tight.
How many watts how many subs and what size?
Just want nice bass fill not vibrating trim.

Maybe just like an Infinity Basslink or a JBL GTO804. With the JBL you would only need 200W. I've heard its a pretty good sub for filling out the low frequencies but not overpowering the higher frequencies. Should be easy to fit under the seat/behind depending on what cab style you have, especially the reduced depth model

This is the Kicker 5 channel I've been thinking about. I think it's budget friendly and has enough power for great sound without going overboard. Just my 2 cents.

I have an older Crossfire 705D 5 channel that's been a workhorse for almost ten years.

Single/dual amp choice is really more an issue of budget and what you want out of your system. If you're going for max tuneability and/or SPL, dual amps. If you want a solid system for everyday use that will give you plenty of punch, a good single is fine provided you get one with plenty of tunability. Matched to a good set of properly installed speaks and sub, a single can easily make your eardrums meet in the middle while still sounding very nice and staying within a relatively modest budget.

I just installed a JL Audio XD700/5 its pretty powerful and very compact. I am running polk audio speakers, and a single 10" sub. Plenty of "oomph" for me.

I have a new system with 5 channel Alpine amp...
Alpine MRX-V60 5ch. amp (w/opt. bass ****)
Also running a single shallow 10" sub in sealed box, Fosgate dvc 4ohms/coil... 300WRMS @2 ohm.
Amp is very compact also, cost 4 bills though.
Plenty of oomph for me, too.
