Where can I put my amp rack?

Hi there fellas I have a question.

I have seen people in 04-08 f150s mount there amps on the back wall, however I have a 99 f150 supercab (the one with the teeny tiny sucide doors in the rear) and I was wondering could it be done mounting say a bit of mdf with two amps on it behind my rear seats on the back cab wall?

Also, cant I just wrap some mdf in carpet, mount the amps on the mdf, then screw through the mdf into the back wall?

Thanks alot fellas..

Hmmm, Well let me rephrase my original post. Where have you fellas with say two amps mounted yours at in your 97-03 f150? I was originally going to go with behind the rear seat back on the cabin wall, but I dont know if there is any heat issue back there or room for my amps to breathe. Plus if you mounted them on the back wall how did you accomplish it and how in the heck did you remove that rear seat back? What is the proper procedure in removing the rear seat as a whole??

I was worried about heat (and holes) on the back wall too, so mine ended up under the front passenger seat and center hump (split bench seat originally).

The pdxes are small though, so may not work for you.

well thanks for the suggestion kp02, i took my backseat out today, it seemed rather easy. I'm contemplating on mounting a piece of thin mdf or plywood to use as an amp rack on the rear wall of the cab. Now that I have the seats out I'm tempted to build a wall back there now, but i gotta be able to have seats for everyone if I need it 1 question is there any way to screw a piece of mdf or plywood to the rear wall without screwing thru the cab to the outside?

I know on the newer trucks there is a support area on the back wall that is double layered. If your truck has that then either predrill through the first layer of metal and use shallow sheet metal screws or use shallow self tapping sheet metal screws.

Other people have accidentally gone all the way through and ended up using silicon to make sure no water got it.

Some people have also used liquid nails and had good success. I would be wary of anything other than a mechanical fastner myself.

yeah I'm the same as you as well liquid nails is strong, but I just dont trust it as much. Are those ribs on the back wall double layered?? if so I may screw into those and then use liquid nails as well...

On my 2010 the support rib is about 2/3 of the way up and is double layers. There are some vertical valleys at the bottom that are not.

The raised area right below the seat locks.

Hey there.
I just had a local (reputable) place quote an entire system install including 3 amps for my 2003 F150 SuperCab, (same doors are yourself).
He said they'd build the mounting board with 3/4" MDF, and carpet the front.
**Then they apply silicon the board and wall for mounting. No screws are used.**
Mount it, apply constant pressure, let it dry, and then mount the equipment.
He said no one has returned with a fallen/released board in 11 yrs.
Possibly an option for you.

I did ask about free space / room and possible heat issues with my 3 amps right beside the back rest.
He gave me the OK without blinking an eye.
He said there were no required alterations for the existing position of the back rest.

thanks alot that clarified it up pretty good, thanks for taking the time to suggest that.. I'm currently waiting on the rest of my sound deadener to get here. I'll be using sound deadener showdown and all their products. So far the cld tiles and ccf has arrived, just waiting on my mlv which should be here today. Anyone ever use sound deadener showdown products in their f150? It was a very pleasant experience and looks like it will work significantly better than most others.

I am building a two level amp rack and stacking my 2 amps, mounting them under the drivers side rear seat. Of course this depends on how wide your amps are, both mine fit, some of the bigger amps wouldn't. I have a 12" sub in a 1 cu ft sealed box under the passenger side rear seat. It's all a tight fit, but will work. My distribution block and crossovers are mounted on the "shelf" all the way to the back of the cab under the backrest of the rear seat. I used Elemental Designs eDead sound deadener in my truck.
