I have an 05 scab. My plans are:

Atrend single 10 box for under the rear seat
JL 10W1V2-4 10" sub
JL 500/1 amp (do i need this much power?)
Stock head unit
Stock door speakers

I will probably upgrade the door speakers in the future. I really dont want to mess with the head unit. I like the factory look. thanks for any help!

 

The amp has 40% more power than the sub needs. If you do use that, make sure your gain is low so the sub won't blow

 

You still set gain correctly and use your volume control to prevent damage.

If you're dead set on a JL amp, the 250/1 is plenty of power for that sub and significantly less expensive as well. IF you're open to different brands any amp that can give you around 200-300 watts would be fine. Getting a small 2 channel and bridging it would be the least expensive route by far and would not sacrificing any performance.

 

Yea, pull back on the reins a decent bit on this one. Youre going to need an amplifier that puts out between 125-175W RMS @ 4 ohms.

 

If you want to keep the stock headunit but want some flexibility down the road, take a look at the JL audio clean sweep system

 

Get a 4 channel, bridge 2 channels on that sub and run the other channels on your front speakers.
