so it begins

alright so just about ready to finally start installing some stuff here. was able to pick up a kx 800.2 and a kx600.4 pretty cheap off craigslist. it was a nice rack with some extras.... HAHA(you know what i mean guys) going to use the 800 to run a 10'' cvr dvc 4ohm, and the 600.4 for the door speakers. the guy also gave me two 1 farad caps.... i understand caps but have never used them in a system, so what do you guys think is it worth finding somewhere to mount them and all that jazz or no? thoughts? second question... how am i wiring this amp for that sub, im pretty good with installs and wiring and all that but i just dont get impedence, never learned it, dont really care to, just tell me if im bridging this, how im wiring the two coils etc...

Next... i have had past problems with kicker amps running hot.... do you think ill be alright with these behind the seat of my screw? the setup also came with two barrel fans so maybe i could work them in

Next.... door speakers.... i know i have a set of infinity kappas laying around that im prolly gonna use for now in the front..... but they are 6.5s, i have yet to open the doors up to see what im lookin at but will it be pretty easy to mate these to the doors? and what speakers do you guys reccomend?

i think thats it... so fire away... i know its not exactly the perfect mated system but its a start and once everything is there its alot easier to switch out amps and what not without having to do the wiring, it just becomes plug and play essentially. so im excited to start but not really to tear apart my larriat haha

The caps are a waste of time and space at those power levels.

If you are concerned about heat simply tie the fans into your remote wires for the amps and ground them properly. Tada.

I would not bother using the caps.

and since its a DVC you can prob bridge the sub to 2ohm mono and have it sound decent.

here is a link from fosgate

ok so after a weekend lacking in booze, and sleep (to the tune of 3 hours saturday night), and full of time spent in the shop the system is in. i mounted both kickers on the back wall on the passenger side, i moved the rear window motor (temporary mount haha), and found a single ten inch box that fits nicely on the floor between the center console and rear seat. i also mounted the fans back there, and installed some door speakers in the front doors. i am very happy with the set-up but im ultra tired right now, ill have some pics up and a little more detail in the next couple days.

a 1farad cap is crap. dont even waste ur time on it. if ur going to push allot of power in ur system just put another battery under the hood alot easier. and ur truck wont have gay cap lights glowing all the time.

kicker and mtx amps run hot and tend to burn up quickly u can find a kit for a fan for them or just wire up a computer fan to it and draw the heat out of the amp if ur good withwiring.

and if ur door speakers are using a wireharness connector just chop the conector off and add the spade connectors to the harness and connect them pretty simple

ok so im having my first issue... last night i was comin back from surfing and everything was going great, sounded awesome... this morning i go to leave for work, and no boom... speakers and all that jazz work fine but now boom. so i peaked behind the seat before i went into work and everything seemed fine, wasnt hot, no thermal or protection light, just the green power led lit up, but i coudltn see any wires to asses that. then today i leave for lunch, and its workin great, then on my way back same thing, no boom. so i gotta take the seat off and see whats going on, prolly a loose wire. but as i was driving back from lunch i put my hand on the sub and noticed it was still getting power because i could still feel it move, but it was only moving inwards and then back out, it never pushed out, and eventually it stopped moving at all, kinda like it was draining any power that was left in the amp. so def got some kinda grmelin. and i have one question i have the amp wired as such... one channel off the amp and i have the sub wired with the voice coils in parallel, so from the amp i have (+amp) to (+vc1) to (+vc2) and then (-amp) to (-vc1) to (-vc2)? is this correct with the ohms and all that jazz?

ok was ur lights flickering at all on the amp if so check to see if ur wires are broken in its caseing. second put a jumper on ur truck turn it on and see if ur subs come back on. if so add the cap or a bigger battery if not either problem. then replace ur amp

def not a power issue, maybe a ground, and would be hard to believe its an issue with the amp, too intermittent and sporadic... my guess is a bad ground or the way the sub is wired.
