Remote power source for amp/radar

Im sure this has been covered in the past, but damn if I can find it.....anyway, using an Alpine PDX-5. All is well, except when I turn off the radio, the amp continues to be powered on, as the remote power wire is tied to my MTX RE-Q1.

Does anyone know of a fuse location on the passenger side where I could tie the remote wire into so if I were to turn the radio off, the amp will shut off?

I hope I didn't confuse the heck out of you and thanks for the help.

BTW, since we are on the subjuect of power source, what about using a power source to hard wire an Escort 9500ix? I've seen the small plugs that will tap into the auto dimming mirror and that makes is nice, but any other options?

Again, thanks for the help!!

Alright i am a bit confused, there is a remote power wire Typically a light blue, in the harness on the back of your deck... What is that plugged into? Where is the amp getting its remote power from?

Get a cheap test light and you can find a fuse that is switched power really quick. Or even easier, just look in your owners manual and find which fuse is for the radio, and run it to that one. That's what I did.

If your looking for a fuse that's powered when the key is on, there are a lot available. But it sounds like you're looking for a point that is powered off/on when you turn the radio **** off. I don't know of any location to do that.

For my detector, I use a key powered fuse in the fuse box. Run the wire behind the pillar molding and stuffed under the headliner. It comes out above the mirror and just put my detector there.

I'm also using a MTX-Req. However, when I turn off my radio, my amps do shut down. Maybe you have it wired wrong. I know that there are two ways to wire the REQ for your amp, one is that the REQ senses the signal from your head unit, then supplies power to your amps. This is how I have mine hooked up, and it works just fine. The other way, I believe, supplies power all the time as long as your truck is turned on. If you still can't figure it out, call MTX, I did when I had an issue. They have great technical help. I hope this helps.

Yeah, I need to do it this way......I find after I am on the road 7 plus hours, the amp will start to chirp at me....I'm sure it's from being to hot, but it won't turn off the way its wired now.

ibcop, put a switch on the remote wire for the amp. I put one on my dash so I can cut it off when I want to.

Is it the factory radio?
Or an Aftermarket?

If its aftermarket you have it connected wrong or something.

Either put in a switch or a small computer fan to keep the amp cool....

Its the factory Sony nav set-up......if it was aftermarket there would be no problems. With the new systems, there is no switchable 12v power from behind the deck - the constant/switched power was obtained elsewhere.

I am going to just do the switch and tuck it out of the way so it won't be noticeable when I trade in a couple of years.
