Amp blown or not??

Well this was about a year ago when i had my chevy truck....

But i have a Kicker ZX400.1 and the On light (Green) wouldnt come on to say it was working or not and we never hooked up subs to see if light was out...
But anyways we called the shop and they said i might now have big enuf power wire for the amp so they said while the wires are hooked up to the amp put in a paper clip from the remote to the power wire and see if it helps.

Well we did and the clip caught fire and the Security light (Red) came on so i ripped out the clip real fast.. called the place back and they said i might have blown the amp but maybe not.

After that i havent messed with the amp again until i got a new truck and run all new wires. Havent done that just yet so am asking if you guys think it is blown or not??

my amp looks like this..

have you checked the fuses on the amp? and your shop sounds retarded. go to a reputable place and they should be able to test it

Looks can be decieving, test it with an ohm meter. I've seen plenty of fuses that looked good test blown on an ohm meter over the years. Test it to be sure.

Got a 12v test light? They can be used also.

Ok, you can pick one up at any auto parts store for about 10 bucks, or just keep plugging in known good fuses and see what happens.

Wow, they told you to touch (bridge) the power and ground wires together. What an asshat. Swap out the amp fuse and check the fuse under the hood. Chances are you poped it when you grounded it out. Dont ever touch power to ground! It causes pretty sparks and problems.

You can however bridge the power to the remote wire to force the amp into an on. Just dont leave it because the amp will never turn off.

Take the backplate off the amp and nose around the board. See if you see anything thats melted, blown, or burnt.

I have a feeling this is what the guy at the shop meant for you to do. If the amp green light wasn't coming on, it probably didn't have a remote turn on signal.

haha well i jacked this thread all up. lol. i checked my amp today and the burn marks from the paper clip that melted the plastics on the amp where in the power wire and rmeote wire not the ground wire...like yal said. i kinda thought i messed this up somewhere lol.

Recap. everything happened the same just not ground 2 power. It was Power 2 remote like yal said. My bad lol.

12v to remote shouldnt have caught fire like that. You may have toasted the amp somehow though. No way to really test it except for hooking it up and seeing what happens.
