amp install question
amp install question
I think I am ready to install my amp have looked at many posts.
Just a few more questions
First I am only installing small 4 channel amp should I install it up high
or down low for best clearance/heat?
Also thinking of grounding it to one of those bolts that hold those strapes for the baby seat mount things. Would that be ok if I sand it really good?
What is the best way to run the RCA and speaker wire back to HU?
thanks

As low as possible if you're mounting on the back wall. In my first pic, see the indention in the sheet metal above my amps? Rule of thumb is to stay below that line, because the back seats are angled back. There's plenty of room on the bottom half, not so much on the upper half.
I ran new speaker wire from my components to my amp down each side (per speaker). The RCAs you should run opposite the power wire. I ran my power wire down the passenger side, so I ran the RCAs down the driver's side. Just go from the head unit, around the carpet under the pedals, and down the door sill trim.
For ground I took a wire cup brush and ran it on the sheet metal to remove all the paint and grounded my amps as seen in the second pic.
FYI I didn't bother cleaning up wires yet as I am waiting on my sub box to come in. Once it's in and I can wire them up I'll do some cleanup work.

For right now it's just in the top lip. It flares out at the bottom just a half-inch or so. When I get my subs put in I'm going to buy longer self-tapping screws. The ones I had (same as top) didn't want to go through the bottom for some reason. I think I had the deadening on a bit thicker there--just enough to keep the screw from tapping through the sheet metal.
Two now, four when subs come in. Two is more than sufficient to hold it in place--but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I thought about adding a third screw between the two to prevent them from going anywhere, but I torqued the chit out of them. They don't budge a bit.
The handle came in handy.

Looks good mblouir. Goodd job keeping the signal path away from power wires. My only suggestion is to use heatshrink instead of electrical tape on the wires where you solder/crimp to terminals.

I bought heatshrink, actually, but forgot to pick up a heat gun. I tried a lighter but it didn't work quite as well.
