Amp location on SuperCrew?
Where can I put an amp in my crew? There is no room under the driver and passenger seats (60/40) and no room in the rear floor under the other passenger seats (I fold down the seats all the way flat). I was told by Circuit City do not put the amp inside of the rear panels because there is no ventilation and the amp can overheat. This is the only space available that I know of. Any recommendations? Thanks.
Maybe cut a hole in the plastic and fab a neat little rack for it back there. or ever put it behind the plastic and add a fan or something.
Gonna mount my amp under the seat in the middle. Soundstream Rubicon 555.
I hope it will fit.

If I cut an opening in the plastic, will that still be effective when the seats are up? Which will be most of the time. If I choose the fan, then how does it connect and where does it go?
The amp I want is an Alpine 4 channel. They say they do not produce much heat as the competitors do.
Thanks for your input.

I would recess the amp into the plastic. Then form the plastic the whole way to the top. like a tunnel (or volcano, if you will)
all the way up to the rear window for the heat to escape. As for the fan hook up you will just have to tap some power (providing it is a 12V fan) from you ACC (accesory) wires (this will make the fan operate all the time the key is in the ACC spot) Also you may run power to it from the on position to keep it running all the time the engine is or the key is in the on spot. I would consult the guys in the electrical form for this as I don't want to be mistaken and have you screwup your truck's electrical system.
Oh and if you EVER decide to tap into the wires, tap off your head unit adapter (the little plug thing that you plug in to install your aftermarket head unit) or head unit waires. Therefore you can unplug it if need be and you don't have to split the factory wiring harness (which could cause your warrenty to be voided).
Hope you understand where I am going... I am not a great explaination man. Why would you not consider putting you amp under the seat? Your box/subs in the way? I will get some dimensions from the Alpine website and take some measurements from my truck to see if I could think of anywhere else to put it.
Talk to you in a few.

Gabriel;
I have my amp (see signature) installed inside of the rear storage compartment on the drivers side. The access cover was not removed. There is plenty of room and cooling air -- never a problem with overheating. If I'm not mistaken, the "outflow" vents are located in this area as well - - suspect these draw air through the compartment when the a/c and heating systems are on (???)

Can't think of anywhere but behind the seat or under the seat... unless you wanted to put it on the tranny hump either front or back and dress it up. I am making a box to house 2 solobaric kicker L7s in front behind the console (between console and seat). Gonna mount amp under it or on top not sure yet.

I have two amps AND my distribution block behind my rear panel, both "standing up" on the lip of the floor. I access both thru my driver's side access panel door, tho' I have them positioned so I can get to the fuses (particularly the dist. block). I've had them this way for months and have never had a problem with overheating..........and, believe me, I've checked after some particularly long, loud sessions to be sure. My HU gets a dang site hotter than those amps ever have. MHO: Mount 'em back there and don't worry about it. Enjoy the ride!

Hey FedEx Pilot, very nice setup. Except one problem - I have the 60/40 split bench seat and I don't think I can put a sub in the center console. Any other suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.
Sundog,
When you say your amps are installed on the lip of the rear floor, what do you mean? I thought the only way to mount them would be to screw them into the rear cab wall panel. But by doing this I'm afraid the screws will go through all the way and may create some water leakage when it rains. Any suggestions?

See current issue of Truckin' magazine for step by step installation of DVD stereo system in previously featured SuperCrewzer. The removal of rear storage panel and fabrication of custom boxes for dual 10" subwoofers and amp is very nice. The storage area loss is small trade-off for what is gained without losing functionality of folddown seats.
Amps and distribution block are bolted to an aluminum plate (approx 14x20). I folded down my rear seats, then removed the rear panel. You'll notice there is a lip/ledge.......part of what forms your little doodad bins behind the access doors on each side. I mounted this plate against the back wall "carpet" and standing on this ledge. With the rear panel replaced, and the driver's side access door opened, my amps are right there. Looks totally stock. No bulges or sacrificed space (unless you count that little bin as "space").
I have Dynamat behind that "carpet" on the entire rear of the cab. I used short screws with retaining washers and nuts to fasten the plate to the "carpet". It's pretty well anchored. The weight of the plate/amps is borne by the floor. There is still an air gap (with my particular amps) of about 2-3 inches between the amp and rear panel.
