To much power....

So The 2 amps I have purchase for my front components and subs exceeds the recommend rms of them quite a bit. Which is a good thing the amps wont have to work as hard. My question is can I use a muti meter of some sort to measure how much power im feeding them so I don't blow them? Or is the "best" way to turn up the gain till they distort then back it down?

the manufacturer of the amp should have a chart of their ideal voltage for tuning,u can never fail with the by the ear tuning for what sounds good to u, yes disconnect the speaker wires from the amp turn up gain until desired voltage is reached, use yuor multimeter, direct current, for instance on my rig, the channels need 17.3 volts of output per channel

My amps didn't come with this information. I will drop them an email and see what they say.
