Help me understand going Active a little more

So far from what i understand, Active in its simplest form is no external crossovers, but running the woofers and tweeters off seperate channels on the amp? close?
The reason i'm trying to learn a bit more about this is i'm trying to piece together a setup hear in the next few weeks.
In the next couple days ill be getting a set of RE SE 10s and a Eclipse ZA1200 to push them. So thats all covered. Now i was thinking about a set of ID CTX's if i can get a set of 6.5s in my 98s doors and find a place for tweets. I was going to run them off a two channel amp. The more i read though i'm thinking i should get a four channel and even if i run them passive i still have the choice to run them active later. correct? As far as rear fill im not to interested in it. I plan to have a set of 5x7s back there faded to the front so i can have them when people are back there.
So on to head units. I'm assuming it takes a special kind of equalizer in the HU to be able to run active and still have rear fill, or to just plain run active.

Thats the end of my questions. So if you guys could help me understand this a bit more that would be great. Maybe touch on the difference between Active and three way active? I assumed that was Tweet, Midrange speaker and a dedicated mid-bass speaker.

Thanks,
Scott

Going active can yeild amazing results. However, if you dont have the processing or the "know how" then I would start with a passive setup.

well that was kinda my plan, get a four channel amp, and set it up like you did with the crossovers right by the amp so that if and when i choose to go active my wires are already there and there is less work involved.

But if i dont start learning now how am i going to understand it later? I've tried searching for more imformation on this but havn't come up with much. maybe im looking in the wrong places? Any websites that i should start researching on? this is something im pretty interested in and would like to do someday.

Running active is a delicate procedure and IMO only for high end equiptment because of the amps super low distortion and the high sensitivity of the speakers. Using say mtx amps and jl components to run active will yield unhappy results. Basically you would run one channel of an amp to one speaker, be a tweeter, midbass, midrange, or whatever. In a simple active setup you would run say a dedicated 2 channel amp for the tweeters and a dedicated amp for the midbass/midrange in a 2 way setup for the front stage. Then you have to tune the amps to work together and blend. Now that's just a short explanation of a very simple 2 way active setup.

There have been many World Champion SQ vehicles that have utilized both brands . By the way, where are the pics of your install Red ?

No, but getting it to blend correctly is more difficult than a passive setup for someone who has no experience in it.

Read my post...it says IMO only for high end.

The teams generally have unlimited budgets sponsored by certain audio companies. So I'm sure with $100k anyone could make mainstream awesome.

Nothing is going to be in the F-150 for awhile as I have other plans to accomplish before I get to the audio department like I said before.

So you're basically just bs'ing my opinion not my information...gotcha.

One of my best friends was a 1996 Iasca SQ world champion , using Earthquake(When they were good)amps, Alpine(When they were good)Deck and JL subs . Total cost of his system was $3500.00 . Another good friend of mine has made it to 3 Iasca and 2 usaci world SQ finals . He placed in the top 15 in every one of them . His system consists of 3 MTX amps, Premier deck , Xtant subs and Soundstream (When they were good) components . His total system cost is about $3900.00 . I could go on forever with guys I know that use GOOD mainstream audio that have done well on the national SQ scene . Installation is much more important than Equipment brand . I could make a full blown Jensen system sound good .

That was 12 years ago when those brands were good. I'm talking about now. Stuff is totally different. Yes, installation is important, but isn't this thread about going active with new products? Quit trying to start arguements you a$$hat.
